trailair hitch coupler, to buy or not to buy?

So when looking at the ordering options on the cedar creek, I see the Trailair Hitch Coupler as an option.

Since I've never owned a 5th wheel, I'd be interested in input here.

Which Cedar Creek? If a BIG unit, make sure you get the 21,000 lb instead of 18,000 lb option, though both are ok.

It helps. Lots of pros and cons and opinions on hitches. LOTS! I got it, glad I did, but it's not magic or anything. Depends on your tow vehicle, your expected driving pattern, the location/terrain you'll be towing, and 43,082 other things.

My reasoning for ordering it was "Hey, why not?"

Well, it'll be the 34rl2 on an Anderson ultimate, on a ram 3500.

We've been known to park in the desert, but I'd say the bulk of our trips are typical roads

The 18,000 is big enough on that one. But if you are ordering, and that's an option, I'd get it. Just my opinion. It will NOT be that noticeable, probably. Just one more bit of help.

Well FWIW, I talked to Andersen hitch directly and asked this very question. I was told by Andersen's tech guy, not a secretary, that I would be better off without the Trailaire hitch however that model would work with their hitch. He recommended not ordering that option. By the way, I also have a 34RL2 on order. Andersen seems to be quite willing to answer tech questions, I would recommend giving them a call. Dan

I went with the standard and no regrets. With the Andersen you don't need the Trail Air or any added cushion.

I had the Andersen/Trailair on our Trilogy and now on the Riverstone, it makes a huge difference IMHO.
In combination with a regular 5th wheel hitch it absorbs some of the chucking (for/aft movement), with the Andersen it absorbs a lot of the vertical movement.

As stated on IRV2.... Goosebox. You get the cushioning (Comfort) of the trailAir, empty bed when unhitched, CSA & J2638 rating standards and 1 less component in the mix... Instead of the pinbox/hitch combo...you have only the GooseBox.

We will be enjoying ours for about 2500 miles over the next 2 weeks.

That's another reason I didn't order the Trailaire option. If I don't like the Andersen for some reason, I am going with plan B which is the Goosebox. That way I only have to sell the Andersen which should be an easy sell. Used Trailaire may be more difficult to find a buyer.

I'd love to find a video of someone hitching up.

I recommend you take a look at the Trailersaver TS3. We have a 16,500 lb GVW fifth wheel, and use the TS3. Started with a B&W, but after 3 pulls, upgraded! Took us several trips, but landed on 88 lbs of air pressure in the TS3 as the best handling and most comfortable for our rig. Rarely is something good, inexpensive. So strap on your wallet! Happy Wife, Happy Life! Hope this humble opinion is helpful!

I've seen this before. It looks nice, I'll take it into consideration.
