Tri-Step to Quad-Step

Now have a tri-step on 36RE and thinking about changeing to a Quad Step Lippert Part #198583. Has anyone made this change that might be able to share some input.

I did some searches and want to do the same thing. Most people say it's a straight bolt-in. A few said holes didn't line up and they had to drill out new ones. If you do it, please take pics! :-)

Dealer service dept. told me that the old style quad steps from Lippert were weak and bent the bottom step. A new style that is used for the 2013 5ths is a stronger bottom step. Is your part number for the new step?

I did read about some flexing issues with them. I planned on mounting step supports under each of them. I figure it'll help fight some bouncing as people come up the steps.

Just checked Lipperts web site. Steps are not avalable at this time. Where were you going to get the quad steps at?

I have been looking at these quad steps from Elkhart Tool & Die. Elkhart Tool and Die : Elkhart Indiana - RV Steps - Continuous Hinges - Custom Metal Fab

I am trying to find someone that has made this conversion but haven't yet. Lippert use to have the quad step on their web site but I don't think they do now.

Anyone out there with the Elkhart Quadra steps?

My dealer is ordering a 4-step for our 36RE. Not sure where he is getting them from. I'll let you know all the details when they come in.

I know Lipperts web site does not show them but the part number I got was off one of there steps on a 2013 unit, they do have them. You can also find them on tweetys web site. I will be ordering a set this weekend and will post pictures of placement on 2010 36RE just as soon as they get here. May even have Lou helping as he is coming to FL and camping in same campground. Will keep you posted. R

Just wondering what you guys are experiencing? I'm going over to the dealer in a few, to visit our unit. They were already booked for today, so we can't do our PDI and bring it home today. I want to pay attention to the steps to see if I have the same issue. Thanks

Is the quad step supposed to be easier to climb into the 5er? Just curious...

I'm not a heavy person. 165 pounds. But I feel the "spring" in the steps when I step on the lower most step. Extending another step out and down would seem to really make them springy.

Has anyone seen the weight rating on these 4 Step models?

Suggest whatever steps you use, block them with jacks or heavy lumber. May save your ankle as well as your steps!

That light bulb went on right after I posted about the give in the steps.

There is an inexpensive "step jack" that is available to place under the bottom step to reinforce them.

There's a little fold-up one that you install once and then just fold it out and extended it when you want to use it. Sounded handy-dandy. I'd have to refind the link, though.

LaydBack- we have the 36qb and commonly have a single fold out step to make the ground to bottom step closer. The first place we camped, the site was very unlevel with the door side being the low side. It was terrible. We ended up buying the extra step that trip (for both doors).

We've used it probably 1/4 of the times we've been out. When my inlaws go, my MIL appreciates having it.

Yes, for a couple of reasons:

1) the ground to bottom step height can be a challenge with my fiver - the extra step puts the bottom step lower
2) the "rise" from one step to the next is less with these 4-step units. It's 7" instead of 9" making it easier to walk up.

Heck, I almost wish RV manufacturers would consider doing the same for the inside steps. I'm fairly young, but stumbling down the steps in the middle of the night on my way to attend to our crying baby- I wish those steps were closer to household height rise-wise. I feel like they're really tall when I'm just not fully awake.
