Water pump

I had to have my diverter valve changed and ever since that was done my water pump wont run. I had someone look at it and they primed it but has soon as i shut it off and left it for a couple days the pump wont run. Do i need a new pump or what.

What do you mean... 'the pump won't run?'

12 volts to "make the pump run' has nothing to do with a diverter valve.

Do you mean the pump runs and doesn't pump water or the pump is completely dead and makes no sound whatsoever?

OK.. your post is confusing because you also said it wouldn't run but then someone looked at it for you and primed the pump and you shut it off. That means it ran.

Have you checked to be sure the pump is turned back on?

Have you checked for voltage at the pump.

Again... a diverter valve has nothing to do with the pump running.
Running is controlled by the switch and 12 volts.

Now... if the pump runs but doesn't pump... then that could be the diverter valve or anything on the the suction side of the pump and even the pump itself.

We need to know which is which before we can help.

EDIT... you posted your 2nd reply to my question while I was typing... you are going to need to check for voltage at the pump with the switch on.

Do you own a multimeter and know how to use it?

Agree that changing diverter valve should have nothing to do with powering pump.

Checked fuses?

Make sure that pump is not running but just needs prime to start flow.

I have checked all the voltage and fuses and it has power. I mentioned the diverter valve because the pump was working fine until a repairman changed my valve and then it didnt work. I had someone else look at it and he primed it and it worked that day only. I tried it 2 weeks later and it doesn't work.

Just for fun... if you are sure it has power... try tapping lightly on the pump motor housing (usually black metal) with the handle of a screwdriver and see if it might run. Could be a stuck brush from little use.

In any case if you have power (and a good ground circuit) and the pump doesn't run, it is time to replace the pump.

I don't know your skills but replacing a pump is not difficult at all.

If you are able to verify the pump is getting power, then your skill set should be enough to replace a pump.

Best of luck in whatever you choose to do and please report back and let us know the outcome.

It helps others with similar situations.
