Westlake Tires

I have a 2017 Cedar Creek Champagne. I have take two trips totaling less that 500 miles. The tread separated on one of the Westlake G rated 235-85 R16 Tires. I cannot find one available having searched the 50 mile radius of Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Anyone else had any mishaps with these tires?

Therein lies the reason these are referred to as "China Bombs". Manufactured in China and NO INDICATION before they go, kaa plooooey, BANG!!

My Power kings on our new 2011 Keystone had a similar experience on the Florida Turnpike, 50 miles south of Disney at 60mph. Had to mount the spare and travel to central GA with out a spare. Also did $3,000 in damage to the 5er. Out of commission for 12 weeks at the time.

Painful in both lost use and out $1000 deductible plus $275 for tire which is considered " wear and tear"; right!

Thus proving also that not even the Champagne's come with G614's on them.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE inform Cedar Creek Warranty so they can understand what they're selling. They've told me these are worthwhile and quality tires.

My unit came with the Westlake D rated tires. I've been to Colorado and back, Houston, TX and back, Nashville and back, plus too many shorter trips to list and have not experienced any problems with the tires. I use the TST
507 TPMS system on my unit. Knock on wood, but I must be one of the few, if not the only person to not have any problems with the Chinese tires. Now watch me jinx myself and have a problem after I submit this post.

I had the Westlake tires on my first Cedar Creek and put at least 10,000 miles on camper and I never had any problems with the tires. Before I brought the camper home I put a set of TPMS TST 507 on camper

Purchased our 2017 Cedar Creek Hathaway Edition in April. We have 1500 miles on the Westlake tires and have had no problems. I do have a TPMS TST 507 so I do keep an eye on them. From what I have found the Westlake tires that are on my Cedar Creek are 14 ply Commercial semi trailer tires. Be sure to post what you find out about your tire.

The tires I have on my current Cedar Creek are G614, I still don't understand why Cedar Creek will not let you option in the Goodyears. I will not buy another Cedar Creek unless I can get the Goodyears, I'll keep what I have

We have four years on our Westlakes with no issues to date. I would not have a problem using another set.

Our son even had a car with Westlake passenger car tires on it.

FR will not offer a upgraded tire from what they come from the factory with. The reason is that would mean that FR is not putting on the best tire for your unit. This question was asked at the Factory Tour to the Rockwood rep. and that was his answer to about 35 people taking the tour...

I know our 2010 Cedar Creek came with the Good Years on them now our new River Stone Legacy has the 17.5 Good Year H rated tires but the lower River Stone will come with Walker tires, which I never heard of before

I wounder where Lion Head comes up with these brands? I never heard of them before either. Lion head lets say is getting there Lion share of business from FR. IMO which really means nothing is that Lion Head probably supplies 90% of rims and tires to FR.

Wouldn't be a "bomb" if it didn't explode. A TPMS and regular inspection/maintenance are your friends. Much easier to yell "CHINA BOMB" than to admit to neglect.

That said, does this mean all tires are created equal? No.
Do manufacturers use the best tires available? No.
Do all tires manufactured in China blow up? No.
Do peeps who use TPMS and regular inspection/maintenance have tires that fail? Yes, but they usually don't "explode" without warning.

Like other worn out/misused/socially unacceptable labels in society, this China Bomb stuff is getting old...

I just will not buy tires made in China for my truck or camper or my DW Mercedas. I run the correct tire pressure in the tires and check the tires with a digital gauge monthly. I have a TPMS on all the tires. Some things you have to take care of,

I really think the reason Cedar Creek uses the Chinese tires is because they are CHEAP

I have discussed with George Oliver, CC'S warranty manager. He has been very helpful agreeing to cover damage to RV from tread separation. However he defends Forrest River decision to u s e them.

I would not expect any other response.

The ISSUE: why not offer upgraded tires in the build out? I surely would have paid more for the best quality available.
