My advise to the OP:
There are opinions and there are facts. Manufacturer's numbers are facts, plain and simple. Sticker numbers on the trucks are how the manufacturer has decided to rate their products.
People's experiences, and conclusions derived from those experiences, are opinions and not facts. Some people, based on opinion or experience, will decide that they will rate the truck higher than the manufacturer because they have decided that their opinion is a better guide than the manufacturer's ratings. Only you can decide whether you are fact or opinion driven, and make a judgement call you are comfortable with.

See my signature. The 34RLTS GVWR comes in just under 14K. We went with the Andersen hitch. It weighs 50lbs. We just bought the trailer last month. The tow home on the Va interstate roads from Ashland Va was interesting to say the least, but, no white-knuckle experience. The 5er only had about a third tank of fresh water and full propane tanks. Nothing else on board. I was happy about how it felt towing. I did a lot of research for the truck. Weighed the manufacturer numbers and the opinions of users. I am comfortable with the decision about the tow vehicle. I look forward to many years with this rig.

Being overweight is not an option in my opinion. My 2002 F-250 is rated for a 14,000 lb 5th wheel towing and it is a 7.3 Diesel. It would pull way more than that but the issue is stopping and especially towing in the mountains with brakes heating up. A huge liability if you injure someone being overweight. Being within weight is a must and having excess capacity is desirable.

I bet if you looked at your truck's payload capacity and crunched the numbers, you can't tow anywhere near a 14000 lb 5er.

Probably not Timfromma. I had a travel trailer at 9,000 lbs behind it. Now I have a 2017 F-350 Dually with a CC Champagne 38EL on order. Would not want to push any truck to the limits. Margin = safety and I like safety.

Second, look again at your numbers. While that Ford might be able to TOW 15,000 pounds, there is just no way it will carry the pin weight of a 15K fiver.
Cedar Creeks are notorious for heavy pin weights. Heck, my 34CKTS with a 13,750 GVWR always runs with 3500 pounds pin on a 13,500 scaled weight.
My neighbor has been pulling a 38' Montana for nine years now with a 2004 Silverado 2500HD 6.6L diesel. Did most of the NW two years ago without a single problem. Crossed the divide numerous times...I believe he's scaled in around 23,500, but don't quote me on that...I'll have to ask him tonight.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

The GCWR that I found on the internet (so it must be true) is 22,000 for the Silverado. That means they are 1,500 over. Hmmm. Not me!!! I guess all those years doing weight and balance in a Cessna taught me something after all. Never exceed vehicle specified weights.
