I would be perfectly comfortable towing one with my single wheel 1 ton. Only 2000 lbs more than I'm currently towing, and I can't even tell its there

In all our travels, we've only found one car wash that could take a dually. But this link will tell you where you can find a Blue Diamond truck wash. They're meant for tractor/trailers, but will be happy to wash yours, and it's usually only $12.00 (costs that much in quarters for most DIY's).

Your warranty will be void unless you pull it with a Dodge Ram Cummins diesel....

Our '12 F350 DRW went through the car wash at Crosley Ford's Quick Lane with room to spare and it was free for the basic wash. It also got 12 mpg avg on our 10,000 mile annual adventure.
If I was in need of a TV for a 36CKTS today, I would buy the '15 Ram 3500 DRW with the Asin trans and Cummins Diesel. Probably a Big Horn pkg and side storage boxes as well.
Just sayin...

I pull a 2014 38CK with a Chevy 2500 DA, but then it's a bigger heavier trailer and apparently doesn't require a dually to pull it. In Ohio a 1 ton requires commercial plates which cost more.

"Your warranty will be void unless you pull it with a Dodge Ram Cummins diesel", said the RV salesman to your wife as you slip him $100...

I bought a new Ram in 2010 as well. The first 70,000 miles or so were great. Then it started to fall apart like every other Chrysler product. Happy to see it go away. Replaced it with 2015 Silverado. I don't yet know if it will be better or not..but it can't be any worse...

I just got my Plates for my 1 ton DRW and they are not commercial. About $82.00 per year. You only need commercia if you are using it commercially ( for hire).

I cannot fathom the thought of sacrificing safety for money. My wife and family mean too much to me for that.

maybe in your state, but not in lots of others. I couldn't switch my plate when I traded my 2500 for a 3500. With vehicle over 10,000gvwr have to have a commercial tag (C followed by number). Yearly registration much higher too

I need to see some stats that a properly configured 2500 is any less safe than a dually.

I would tend to a agree that some of the newer factory equipped 2500 trucks have a great tow and payload rating. Not sure if there would be many campers out there that would exceed one of those 2500s.

As for a DRW being safer then a SRW, well there are stats that prove they are. Regardless what you do to your 2500 you will never have the stability of 4 tires on the ground in the back. The stats are in the engineering divisions and can be searched that show the required force to break away a DRW is Z while the force required to break away a SRW is Y. Could the sun, moon, stars align and that be the deciding factor in a crash or not, yes, could have a plane fall out of the sky and land on you too.

Could the DRW cause someone who is nervous of the wide back cut a corner short and run someone over, I think that is more likly and maybe a DRW should be considered more dangerous lol. In the end you need to stick or go with what does not make you worry. What does not make someone else worry is of no use to me.

everyone forgets you can get a single wheel 1 ton. Lots more payload capability than a 3/4 ton without the width of a dually. I'll never have a 3/4 ton again.

While I agree that a dually is safer in some regards, compared to a single rear wheel unit, it is not always necessary. If you are not traveling in high winds, sharp corners at hi way speed, or uneven terrain, it may be a bit over kill for a daily driver. Now, davel1971 has mentioned that he prefers the single wheeled 1 ton over the 3/4 ton. There are some advantages to the 1 ton, but i would suspect they are not nearly what he thinks they are. Generally, with the Big 3, you will get slightly more pay load, on paper, and generally towing for fifth wheels is the same, or so close it does not matter. 3/4 tons have to come in under 10000lb. GVR. This is to create a class of vehicle that is not subject to the same licensing requirements as a 1 ton, or commercial vehicle. OF the big three, there is virtually no difference, besides an extra leaf spring. ( new rams have a new frame and coils, still the 3/4 is rated to pull about 200lb. MORE than the 1 ton, just not rated for as much cargo). In a lot of places, 3/4 are acctually subject to a luxury tax, where the 1 ton is not, but will generally have a higher registration fee.

One thing to remember is that the 10000lb GVR is not necessarily rated on the trucks ability, as I have stated above, the components are virtually the same under the truck. And on a side note, I have owned them all at some point. My last few were and 06, F350 (POS), 08 Dodge 2500 mega, 2011 F350 (POS) and a 14, 2500 ram. All diesel, 4x4. All from new. The 14 Ram is rated to pull almost 2000lb more than a new F350, so 3/4, 1 ton doesn't really mean much if you d your home work. AND EVERY ONE, INCLUDING THE 1 TONS NEEDED AIR BAGS. The one that actually handles the weight the best is the 14 Ram. Now with all that, yes, the dually is probably safer, I just don't feel I need that much. Wow, that probably came out pretty jumbled. Sorry LOL.

I'm not claiming my truck to be more than what it is, nor equal to a dually, but the payload is 50% higher than a 3/4 ton. From 2550 to 4143. Dually would add another 1000 lbs and more stability. I'm not sure why everyone "needs" airbags. They do nothing to add capacity to the truck in any way. With my 5th wheel well loaded, and firewood stacked all around the hitch, and 2 kayaks on roof of truck, I'm still sitting higher in the rear vs front of truck.
