Would like to exchange tankless water heater for and electric/propane water heater

I've a new 2017 Cedar Creek 36ck2 with a tankless water heater. Neither the wife or I care for it. We found out we really like the old style water heaters we had in our other campers. When I got it I thought cool, tankless water heater, but we can't seem to get use it it being one minute hot then cold. Has anyone had any luck with getting Forest River exchanging out the water heaters.

I would take my tank heater back in a second. That being said we have got ours adjusted and have learned to get along well with the tankless one.

Sent you a PM.

Some folks love theirs. We didn't.

We didn't like ours either.

They fixed something that wasn't broken when going tankless. We had ours swapped out by the dealer for a suburban 12 gal elec. /propane and are very happy with the change.

Our tankless was a suburban also and the new one was an exact fit. Had to run a 110 supply line, but that wasn't a problem as our built in vac was next to the water heater and has 110 there.

Love our Girard Gen 1 tankless! Don't ever want another rig w/o one.

Big fan of our truma.

Results of tankless heaters are brand specific.
Most brands/models do not work well.
Very few work well

Not to say that on-demand are perfect, or that some don't have real problems, but we have found that in real life some tankless 'problems' were user related. We have helped several folks enjoy their tankless after re-educating them.

I think to say that most don't work well is incorrect. At least in our experience with other campers. In forums you tend to only hear the exaggerated negative side of things.

We did that and it did help, but if dry camping there is a problem with internal pump capablity and how much water used.

Tankless hot water tank

Our Birkshire originally had a Girard Tankless first generation tankless in it. It would not work most of the time. We had it repaired four times. When it did work the water temperature would fluctuate from hit to cold etc. I was told by a repair tech that this model had been replaced because of all the issues.
I called Girard and complained about this system. They were very upfront about the system I had and how they had engineered a new model that allows you to adjust the temperature. The newest model had a program box that attaches inside the coach. If the water is to cold for one person they can turn the temp up by pushing the up arrow...and vice versa....Girad sent us the system for free! It was installed in June of last year and we have had no issues with the water temperature fluctuations.

We love ours. There is a learning curve. First you must always turn the hot on all the way and leave it that way. This will allow a full flow of water through the heating coil. Then to regulate the temp adjust the cold up or down as needed. We have never had the fluctuating temps some talk about using this method. We've stayed at quite a few RV parks since we got ours and have not yet had a problem.

That is what we do. It is the dry camping that is the biggest problem.

We dry camp 80% of the time with a tankless. On the forum we hear folks complain of wasted water and low flow rate with pump. I guess we are lucky as we don't experience any of that. Our water usage per week is exactly the same as when we had a tank. Oxygenics shower head improves the feel of the shower.

We replaced our elec/propane water heater for a Precision Temp RV550. Found that the water flow is insufficient. We get 5 gpm from the house hose, but only get .94gpm when we turn on both hot and cold. The RV550 requires 0.5gpm flow or it won't come on. Made a lot of adjustments and removed all the restrictorss I could find. Now get enough flow to make things work for my spouse's shower, but I like my showers a lot cooler. I need 50%hot and 50% cold, but can only get it if I turn on the hot water in the sink along with the hot/cold mix in the shower. When I reached out to FR I was told "on demand water heaters do not work in my Georgetown....may be I should reconsider being a RVer.

Our Berkshire came with a Atwood tankless water heater when we purchased the coach I switch it to the Truma tankless water and love it. Was well worth the cost to switch.

We have the good old tank style water heater. We mostly stay with full hookups and having an electric wh works fine for us 95% of the time.

On those few occasions we need a boost I turn on the gas and have dual fuel. That said it's just the 2 of us so we aren't going through a bunch of hot water at one time.

My .02c is for many it's an expense.

You’ve just never had the pleasure of having a good tankless.

I’m quite the opposite. I’ll never have a tank water heater.
My truma has been perfect.

Tankless H20 Heater

I have a 2016 Cedar Creek 36CKTS with the tankless heater. I love it. I seldom have fluctuating hot water. The best thing: NO MORE NAVY SHOWERS.
