A/C, Microwave, TV Not Working

2014 Coachmen Mirada 29DSSE.

Doing some maintenance today. Realized I had left the main power on a couple of weeks ago. In Texas. Hot. Started Vehicle. Started Onan 5.5 K Generator from drivers seat. No problem.Batteries charged in 15-20 minutes.

Interior Lights work. Both slides work. Refrigerator works on house power. Neither A/U Unit will start. Power to both thermostats. Microwave has no power nor does either TV.

Checked all 110v and 12v breakers and fuses.

HELP.

The problem appears to be in the 110V system. I would recheck the circuit breakers actually turn off and on. When you say fridge works on house power do you mean 12V or 110V. Also check the circuit breakers on your onan I believe there are two by the circuit board. If you correct the problem be sure to let the forum know what you did.

I have toggled all 110v breakers. Also pulled and checked 12v fuses. I pulled cover off onan but didn't see any breakers on or near it, only an on/off switch. Will check again.

Also, cussed a lot.

Thanks, Jim

You can't check breakers by looking at them. Check the terminal with a meter. It looks like you have no power at the main buss bar the breakers attach to. Check power with a meter where the main cord is plugged in.

GFI may be the answer, if I can find reset plug. Haven't found it yet. It is not at plug:
1. Below passenger seat.
2. Under table.
3. On slide in kitchen.
4. Near TV in kitchen.
5. Near bathroom sink.

Opening bedroom slide now.

Usually they are in the bathroom or around any wet area. It would be unusual but maybe an outside receptacle. When I built my teardrop I used GFI breakers.

Also you might check your generator for anything that may have tripped on start up.

Never thought of outside. Will check it tomorrow.

It's not a GFI problem. A/C, microwave and TV won't be connected to one. Check the 120 volt breaker at your generator. Start at the source. If you have power there, go to the next common connection point which would be the panel where the breakers are attached.

Power from the generator to the converter indicates that there's power to one side of the AC breaker box. A popped circuit breaker at the generator ir in the breaker box is one cause of this problem but no mention of the more probable cause has appeared.

From the initial description: "started generator - batteries charged ...." is an indication that the rig has an automatic transfer switch. If one side of the transfer switch failed, some AC devices would would have no power while others would work without problems. This sounds like exactly what's happened.

The inputs and outputs of the transfer switch should be checked. If there's no power at the input, a breaker at the generator or a broken wire between the generator and the transfer is the culprit unless the generator itself has failed, an unlikely occurrence. If there's power at the inputs and none at the outputs, it's the transfer switch; probably the contacts on the relay. If the outputs have power, then the problem lies between the transfer switch and the circuit breaker box, or in the circuit breaker box.

Circuit breakers do fail but it's a very unusual thing to happen in an RV because you rarely manually throw the breakers.

I am surprised that both air conditioners don't work though. They should be wired to different legs of the incoming power to the breaker box so I'd expect one of them to work if half of the transfer switch failed.

Whatever the problem is, it'll be easy to figure out with an AC voltmeter. There should be 120-130V between the neutral (white) and each leg of the power (red, black) wherever you check. Checking with both shore power and the generator will help isolate the problem. If you're not very comfortable working around 120VAC with meter probes, additional protection can be obtained by wearing a pair of insulatin protective gloves like the throwaway ones you use for handling the sewer hose.

Found the problem. Wire loose inside the 50 AMP receptacle (shore/generator wire). I was down to my last resort before taking it to the dealer.

Our Mirada did not have a transfer switch. Are you saying the box you plug your shore cable in to in the outside compartment had a loose wire in the receptacle?

Also glad you found the problem.

However if anybody is using this thread as a resource for any future problems The response from PMsherman is in error in that 2 "legs" of a 120 volt circuit do not exist. They do exist in a 220 volt circuit. Maybe he is from Europe where I understand some campers are 220 volt.

I am a new member, just found you all today and happy I did! PMSherman response was EXACTLY what I was dealing with today, brand new transfer switch, installed by dealer where we purchased our 2014 Coachmen Encounter 37TZ in April, failed. It had experienced some intermittent issues since we picked up our coach but was always able to get the AC units fired up affter a couple tries. But yesterday and today couldn't get either, or the microwave, or the TV's to come on. Back to the dealer we go on Friday for a new ATS!
