add on inverter

I have a 2016 Coachman Prism on the Mercedes 3500 frame. In looking at the alternator it is 14 V 220 A - if I put a 3000 watt inverter and run the vehicle motor to charge the batteries while the inverter is running will this hurt anything? The Mercedes motor is way quiter than the Onan QD 3200.

I understand long periods of idling is problematic for the Mercedes Sprinter. Believe it can damage the Diesel Particulate Filter (and maybe other stuff).

Buy a inverter generator. It will be a lot cheaper than the repair to your diesel. You only need a small generator if it's just for charging batteries.
