Beware - Smoke detector's mounted above slides

Our 2015 Coachmen Pursuit 31BD "had" the smoke detector mounted above our large "slide 1".
On a recent trip we were extending the slide which we are always cautious about...and we heard a crunching sound. My wife fished it out with a broom handle....we were lucky to be paying attention. The slide would have been damaged and the smoke detector did not survive. Coachmen is sending a new one FREE of charge...but what a dumb place to put it.

Was the cover of the smoke detector open?

No were pretty sure it came loose driving down the third world CA freeways
Not a great place to mount anything that can vibrate or come loose.

Had the same happen to me this year--but I only snapped the cover off--main body of the detector remains.

I had the same thing happen on our 2016 FR Vibe. Did not put it back because the holes where the detector was fastened to the ceiling were enlarged and it would have taken larger screws and most likely some sealant. Sealed the original holes and relocated the smoke detector on the wall where the TV mounts.

Doesn't surprise me. Mine hasn't fallen off, but last time I changed the battery in the smoke detector it seemed loose, so I tightened up the screws... or tried to. They seem to be threaded into air.

One of ours is above a slide as well. I went to check the trailer in storage and it was beeping with a low battery warning. I could not even reach it to do anything about it. My battery was on a charger in the garage for the winter and even if it was not I likely did not have room to push the slide out so it had to beep until spring. Dumb place to put it.

Ours is located over the slide out, too. I've removed the battery for the winter every year and put a new battery in each Spring. Never had a problem with the cover being loose or unlatching, thankfully. But thanks for the warning. We'll have to keep an eye out for that as we're removing the slide locks.

We had the exact same thing happen just a few days ago in our 2017 2104S. Crunching noise while extending the slider, noticed it was crooked, retracted slider a bit and fished around to find the detector. Then noticed it missing from the ceiling. I was able to tighten the screws but it's now added to the list of things to check before we extend the slider, and will look at moving it next chance.
