Interesting, We just took our 5th wheel in for some warranty work and this is one of the issues on our trailer that I have as well. In the summer months it gets very hot and the winter very cold, and all I could see in the cap for insulation was foil looking bubble wrap that was pieced together with large gaps between the pieces. I hope more people can clarify what is proper.

They chunk some fiberglass batts into the general vicinity... if they remember.
There is minimal insulation in my Concord. That is on my list to correct...
I am going to use duct stick pins, glue them to the inside of the shell, then stick a foil faced duct insulation on them, probably 3.5". A couple of people have just stuffed the cavity full of unfaced fiberglass. The key is to get something in there.

Thanks, but what are stick pins and why unfaced?

Stick pins are a industry slang term... They are actually called Insulation Hangers. They come in several different varieties; self adhesive, weld on or the perforated base. I plan to use the perforated base so I can use a decent glob of adhesive to get them stuck on there.
I plan to use foil faced insulation if I use the stick pins.
If you are just going to stuff some extra insulation up in there I would use the unfaced, easier to stuff.

When I had mine I removed the TV and speakers and loaded another 26 feet of batting in mine.

Hard to say without looking. On our Concord motor homes we have a big entertainment center where we can pull speakers or televisions to get to it.
What is your specific model? Perhaps I can get you pointed in the right direction.

Aaron,
Are you putting this insulation inside? Any concerns about condensation between old and new stuff?

Yes putting the insulation inside the cap area behind the entertainment center.
Nope, now worried about condensation. What little they have in there is just tossed in, not secured in any way. If I go the stick pin route I will be putting the insulation directly against the FRP of the cap, with the foil side facing in, so it will be good to go. What they have put in, is unfaced batts and it is just loose laid, it can be pulled out or left in place.

Aaron,
Are you removing the panel inside or just putting it over it inside.

On the Concord we have an entertainment center in the front, so the insulation is going behind that against the outer fiberglass shell. There aren't any interior panels up there. I also plan to take the corner covers off right behind the cab and add a bit more in there too.

Not trying to highjack this post but I'd like to increase the insulation in the nose cap once I get the trailer back. As per my previous question is it OK to place unfaced insulation against the foil looking bubble wrap in the nose cone?

That is what I would use. The foil insulation will act as a vapor barrier, not that you really need one against the fiberglass. Depending on how much room you have I would either use the 3.5" or 6".

What is the best way to go about removing the TV to add the insulation? We've had ours such a short time and hubby has been out of commission so I don't even know if it flips up like the one we had in our FR3.

If it is installed like mine the TV is mounted to a piece of plywood and the plywood is fastened to the cabinet frame. It is almost a 2 person job to take it down, when you pull the last screw you have a TV coming down at you fast.
IIRC mine is held in with 4 screws, the outside one is mounted the same way.
