I knew about this. Can't make if unfortunately but you never know, that might change. I contacted Ken at Coachmen and was informed I might be able to have the solid panel doors installed to replace the hollowcore doors I have now. He also said they may be able to replace the seat coverings. All done in the spirit of the Rally at only a modest charge.

I was quite worked up about it actually until I put a call into the Coachmen association (Jason) and found out that wasn't true.

The location is a short 3 hour drive for me. I might still go but I'm not certain yet. The deadline for registering is April. The 19th I think but don't depend on that; check the site.

Attended the rally last week at the St Joseph County Fairground in Centreville, MI; only a 55 mile drive for us. The service & seminar rally was very interesting and we learned a lot. I would highly recommend attending one of these, especially if you have any issues with your RV. The Coachmen service manager was there along with two technicians, Gary and Mike, that were busy most of the week.

I had the gaskets (bulb seal) replaced on all of my slides. Apparently the seals applied at the factory are too thin and when compressed the edge of the slide rubs the paint on the body trim around the slide. Also had several other issues diagnosed that will need to be taken care of at the factory later this summer.

We got to view a new prototype Encounter model that has some features that we will probably incorporate into our unit. Will get pricing prior to the trip back to the factory in August.

Overall a very good experience and met some great people at the rally. Jason Brewer does a great job in organizing the Coachmen Owners Association/Caravan Club. Thanks, Jason!!

For those that are interested in attending a future service & seminar rally (the next one will be in 2015) I have attached a copy of this year's agenda. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks, Larry! Glad to hear that it went well.

I may need the bulb seals replaced as well. Any more info there (or perhaps you can PM me on who you dealt with there, so that I can put my dealer in direct touch w/them?). I'm coming up on my one year ownership, so I definitely want to get this addressed in the next few weeks for sure.

Any other notable things to be repaired, etc., or great stuff in the new models that are an absolute must-have?

Thanks!

I'm interested too Larry. I have an early model Encounter and don't think I have the slide seal problem but would like to know more, pics perhaps of the seal that has to be replaced so I can compare?

Also interested in the changes you want to do?

Thanks,

Roll

Roll & Go6Car,

Attached is a picture of our right front slide with the new bulb seal applied along with a picture from FactoryRVSurplus.com that appears to be the same gasket material that they installed at the rally. The new gasket is 3 to 4 times the thickness of the original material and seems to solve the paint rubbing problem.

One of the great features that we saw on the Encounter prototype is the MCD powered day/night windshield and cockpit shades. We had been contemplating purchasing either the Magneshade or Prompt RV Sunscreen versions. The inside mounting and storing capability of the MCD versions we believe to be more convenient.

The DW is also very interested in replacing the roman shades and draping type valances in our living/dining area. The new models have much better window treatments.

The new Encounter prototype also has an option for a residential refrigerator. That is not something we will do until after our RV fridge fails. It already did but was fixed under warranty - we also purchased the 3 year extended Dometic service contract.

I will PM you both about the other issues that we are having fixed at the factory.

Happy Trails,
Larry & Linda...

Thanks for posting w/pictures!

That seal is MUCH better than what we have now; I'll have to add this to our list as I want to replace ours (worst being the passenger-side slide in our case - very, very thin seal and we have paint rubs.

We actually did some of the interior cosmetic mods that you mention prior to delivery to replace the roman shades. In my gallery, you can see a picture. Our window treatments are actually the same ones in the 2012/2013 Sportscoach Cross Country. The dealer had to actually hand-make a few of them (we also put window treatments in the bathroom and on that small kitchen window, so no curtains anywhere). A much better improvement over the thin roman shades and chiffon-like window curtain material.

We also did Forest River's version of MCD shades, throughout the coach as well. (In my picture gallery on here, the windshield one was not the final version, as the dealer inadvertently ordered it too short. It now goes the full length of the front windshield.). This is been, by far, the greatest mod we have done, to date.

I wish I had the residential fridge, but at this point, can't really justify the cost of replacing a perfectly-working new Dometic.

(If you happened to see a new 36KS, I sincerely hope they have put a regular flip-style light switch in the bathroom!!! Yet another thing we had to do, aftermarket!)
