Defective Upholstery: Coachmen Encounter

Second Owner. 2013 Coachmen Encounter 34TA, 15k mi. All (repeat ALL) Williamsburg Furniture (captains chairs, sofa, dinette) vinyl upholstery is split, cracked, peeling & de-laminated even in non-wear areas. According to this forum & other websites, this problem has existed since at least 2009! Neither Forest River or Coachmen take any out-of-warranty responsibility (one year/12kmi/original owner). Williamsburg Furniture has not responded to inquiry. Surely all these folks are aware of problems/complaints by now!? Has anyone had any success at all resolving this issue without a huge out-of-pocket expense? Does anyone know of a possible Class Action lawsuit filed on this issue? We are absolutely heartsick over this condition of our otherwise lovely, comfortable motorhome!

I put seat covers on my Captains chairs and car floor mats on the carpeted wear areas. The quality of the vinyl and the carpet is crap. My 8 year old Toyota Camry upholstery and carpet wear much better.

Well.....finally got it DONE! Of course, everything was out of warranty, but Williamsburg Furniture, surprisingly, was pretty compromising & gave me what I felt was a fair deal on upgraded material covers for captains chairs, sofa & dining booth. They even customized from original patterns/colors per our request & specs. Had local upholstery shop remove old & install new. Total cost was about 1/3 original estimate.

Good to hear it worked out and that they did stand behind it in the end!

Hello! If your furniture was also manufactured by Williamsburg Furniture, your contact would be "Karlie"@ 574-773-7711 or 800-582-8183 email: parts@wbfusa.com. She was exceptionally helpful & personable. Look under your seats & inside sofa/dinette for Williamsburg style/model # tags.

Don't know if the same holds true for Coachmen but FR is apparently stepping up and providing free new replacement covers for the Georgetown models that have the Williamsburg furniture (sofa/captains chairs). Mine is a 2012 GT 378 (out of warranty) that has developed the dreaded Williamsburg fabric shedding. I was directed to FR by Karlie at Williamsburg. Have sent pictures and tag info (as requested by FR contact) and am waiting to see if all is true.

2012 Coachman Concord seats peeling

Hi, we are having the same issues. All of the materials is completely off both captains chairs, the sofa is nearly the same. We have already replaced the dinette set with our own money and the new ones have started the same thing. They tried to say it was caused by something we cleaned it with but we know that it not true. Thankful to hear someone is finally making some headway. We will be using your success to help us get ours. You would think they would be honest enough to come forward to recall and replace. Makes me not ever want to recommend Coachman Forest River to friends. If anyone hears of a class action lawsuit, we definitely want to join in of we cannot get this resolved.

We had the same issues. Fortunately, it happened while still under warranty so we didn't have to fight to have it fixed. All fabric was replaced without cost. When we went to the dealer to address the problem there was a sofa in the dumpster that looked like ours. This is definitely a defect that should be covered even out of warranty. I see a lawsuit in the future if they don't cover it. No excuse for this poor quality control. The man in the service department said that the owner of the dumpster sofa paid to have it replaced at a cost of $6,000.
