For the later models Coachmen motorhome owners...

FYI Air box restriction alert.

You might want to look under the hood and check your engine air intake box (where your air filter resides). If you didn't see the post about the blue cap you might want to know that during production, Coachmen may have left a blue cap on one of the air intake holes in the air filter box.

Open the front "hood" and you should see among other things, a large black box with an air snout on the passenger side of the box. You should also see a smaller hole, about 1 or 1 1/2 inches in diameter on the lower right (drivers side) pointing forward toward you. In my case that inlet was capped with a bright blue plastic cap. Its a hard item to miss as you are looking into the engine area.

The cap is supposed to be removed at delivery of the Ford stripped chasses to Forest River Coachmen or at least should be removed by the factory when the Motorhome leaves the assembly plant.

You should pull the cap off and discard it. Leaving it on reduces the air flow into the air filter box and thus the engine. Could possibly, (but not for certain) affect gas mileage, engine power, and intake noise.

Thanks for the heads up. No blue cap on ours but there
were eyes in the tube staring back at me. Hope the frog
left before I started the engine! I'm considering a screen
as it's just a hop from the grille to the inlet.

I will look as well. This is the second item that they left on I guess, in addition to that tie-wrap thing that you found (and we had as well) last year.

I have a broken windshield that we need to get fixed, so I'll check for the blue cap as well. (Not sure if something hit us in storage, or if moisture got in there and then it cracked with all this crazy weather we've been having).

Thanks for the heads up.

I've got to add that to my list. Rags or something else for the tail pipe and two air box inlets. I should be plugging those up every fall.

Thanks,

Gary
