Generator question

Coachmen 240fs - I had a lot of warranty work done on the coach since new 4 months ago. Just went away for weekend. The air conditioning will not work with generator running. Air C works when plugged in. What can I check first before taking it in. I figure air conditioner, furnace etc should work under Onan power. Thanks mark.

If you have the 5500 Onan there should be 2 breakers behind the front panel that may have tripped and need to be reset.
Also, your air conditioner is 110 Volt AC and your furnace motor, lights, etc. are 12 Volt DC and are not related.

agreed. pull the genrator cover and check the two circuit breakers on the upper left corner of the generator.

Exact thing happened to me too, it was the lower breaker inside the cover like the other guys described.

Sounds like possible switching relay for Gen to power. Is the clock on the micro wave on when you start and attempt to connect? If not give the relay a couple of good taps with the handle end of a screw driver. This may be stuck open.

If the 4000 watt unit make sure you plug the cord into the 30 amp outlet in the compartment, were our power cord is. Most likely you do not have a transfer switch. That's how ours was from the factory. I added a transfer switch.

Mine was already wired into the trailer and a built in ready to go unit. Sounds strange that you would have a power chord other than your shore power chord.

Make sure the 115 main power circuit breaker on your power panel is off and shore power is not plugged in when transferring or using as a precaution. After running the Generator for a minute or two close the main 115 breaker and within a minute or two your power will transfer to Gen power and the clock light will come on on the Microwave. Now you know you have main power from Gen.

Thank you ResQfrog. That was the problem. I had it p!ugged into a 30amp at the lake. I did not know the cord had to be plugged into the receptical in the cord compartment. I thought it automatically switched over.

Mark.

Very grateful to all and love forums.
