Hurt the Mirada last weekend

Up at Shaver Lake, CA for the week. Very early (dark) on Saturday we packed up to leave. Well from the pic can you guess what happened. There is a reason you can't lock open lower cabinets under sliders so the genius that I am, I made a prop to hold it open and didn't think to remove it before I closed the slider. The pic is a re-enactment of the accident scene. Fortunately, it only bent the aluminum door and surround, not the body in anyway. 10 screws and $150 and I get a new door from Coachmen in a few weeks, but it comes white so I'll have to have it painted. Fortunately I got the paint codes for the Rig, and its been covered since I bought it new 18 months ago, so no expected blending of paint issues. Since I now have the four paint codes, I'll get some touch up paint for the odd bug/stone chip. "Stupid is, as stupid does."

BTW coachmen310.com has lots of paint codes if you didn't know.

My buddies MH has the gas struts that hold the doors under the slides open just far enough to clear the slide so that could not happen. Seems like it would be an easy mod?

Cut the PVC prop so it doesn't go so high. A gas prop is certainly something to think about.

Finally got the access door after ordering it two months ago. I had to get it painted. I called Coachmen and the gave me the paint code, and its also on their coachmen310.com website for a 2013 Mirada, it clearly says 2007 Nissan paint code "EVO", had it painted but it doesn't match at all. We looked at other Nissan paint codes and found that "EYO" is a perfect match. So a key punch error on their part. I think my painter will do it again for the cost of the materials.

I had the same issue on my 5ver and same type of door. I took the door off and removed the piano hinge. Cut the hinge down to fit the side and reassembled. Now the door opens to the side. I had to move one of the latches and put white knockout plugs in the hole. Worked out great and now no more worries about crushing the door.

As I siad in another thread. The engineers must never camp. Why you would engineer that door to open up under a slide is just stupid. A simple fix is to just open to the side. Geesh!

You could also turn it over and let it open down.

It would get in your way when dumping the tanks. I can't tell from this pic but in my Encounter the dump arm is directly under the center of the wet bay.

My wet bay door opens to the side by the way.

Gary

Edit: First pic shows dump arm under the wet bay.

BTW....

I like the paint on your Mirada. Nicer looking than the Encounter I think.

I have to agree that designing a door to open upwards that is under a slide out is a poor design. Maybe they should have real RVers test out the design more often.

Our Crusader has struts to hold the door open at our docking station under the bed slide

It only goes up to 90 degrees so it will not hit the slide - the cargo door on opposite side has magnets not plastic latches to hold that door up flush against camper

Both ingenious selling points when we shopped !!
