My generator will crank, but not spark at spark wire going on to spark plug. Would anybody know why this happening. Is there a reset button, I have two breakers next to the start switch both are turn on. Yes I have gas going to the carburetor it will crank but not start. Thanks ahead of time.
the two circuit breakers are for the 120 volt output power. they have nothing to do with getting the generator to run.
if you are sure there is no spark any fuel related issues are probably not the problem. obviously there is an ignition system within the generator that should be producing spark when you try to crank it whether fuel is flowing or not. also, the 5500 has two cylinders and spark plugs.
since it seems like you are relatively new to the forum i'm assuming the generator is new also. has it ever run before? onan has a two year warranty. if the generator is new i'd contact them and let them figure it out. there are also mobile generator services that will work with onan to do warranty work.

I have a 12 volt bug light, connecting to ground and the probe into the spark plug in and trying to start the generator, the bug light will not light. Thank everybody for all your suggestions.
i don't know if this will help or not. the onan generators will flash an error code on the start switch if they shut down for some abnormal reason. i don't know if they will flash an error code if they won't start. it might be worth a minute or two to research if they flash an error code on a non-start condition. if they do it might provide a clue. we have a 5500 and have used the error codes to help with a problem.
