Racking up miles when towing Ram 1500?

Can anyone tell me if I will rack up miles when towing my Ram 1500 4X4 behind my Class A RV? If yes, is there any way to circumvent this?

not that I know the answer, but are you not racking up miles, the truck is being pulled how ever many miles your rv travels, just my take on it, the only difference is the engine is not doing the racking

You will rack up miles while towing it. The only way to get around it is to use a trailer so the wheels are not turning.

You don't state what year the Ram is but assuming it is anywhere from the late 90s on I would say, IMO of course, that no it isn't going to count mileage unless the key is in the on position where the Powertrain Control Module is powered up. The vehicle speed on the vehicle is produced electronically, depending on year model, either using the rear axle speed sensor or the transmission/transfer case output speed sensor.

If you will give the exact year model, transmission type and engine size I will verify my above statement. If the above is not so, I may be able to tell you a particular fuse to pull when towing so mileage is not counted up while towing.

A friend towed a Chevy HHR, the odometer did not record the mileage when towed.

Good point here. I was thinking of the old analog rotary odometers for some reason.

My truck is a 2011. I think it makes sense that unless the key is on the odometer should not record the miles towed. I will be doing a test run soon and will confirm what actually happens when I do.
Thanks everyone for your input.

Turn key on and record milage turn key off. At the end of a days drive or next stop turn key on again and record milage, there is your answer.

Sounds like a good reason to NEVER buy a vehicle that has been towed- if you can tell. That thing can have a LOT of unregistered miles on the axles, suspension, brakes, etc. Obviously not the same as driving it since the engine won't have those miles, but still some wear and tear that is unaccounted for.

I have towed 3 different vehicles 4 wheels down, a Honda CRV, a Mini Cooper S, and a GMC terrain. Miles did not accumulate on the speedo on any of the 3.

I looked at a Ram 1500 2x4 Std Cab Short bed 6 cyl and found that it was too heavy for the coach to tow. Since the 4x4 is much heavier, I'm thinking that you would need upgraded tow equipment on your coach. Then there is that pesky GCWR that you will be up against. Then there is the metric factor...

Ditto here. Our 2012 Jeep Wrangler does not record towed miles. I checked it last summer on a trip to Hilton Head.
