Replacing batteries in Leprechaun 319DS

I took pictures of the wiring, etc when I removed the batteries but they were lost due to a computer malfunction. Not a big problem, but when I go to the two wires coming up from the bottom they are almost identical. One does have a little red spray paint on it so I'm guessing that's the positive but I want to be sure. Also, would there be a problem if I cross-polarized them when hooking up the batteries (other than no juice)? Thank you.
