Steps not moving

So yeah, my steps are in but not opening/retracting. I've a couple thoughts, probably not the fix but worth checking: fuse? Lube?

Assuming either of these work, any suggestions on the proper lube to use? Thx.

Might want to give your door mag switch a rap.

Thanks. What do you mean? Rap Around the magnet or the rocker switch?

The magnet is on your screen door and the switch is on the door jamb. If the fuse isn't blown thought maybe the jamb switch might have stuck.

I also see that the sticker says it's no lube so I guess that solution is out too. Oh well, it's always something I reckon.

Have you checked the fuse? Typically it's an inline 25amp fuse directly off the battery positive post.

Try this it worked for me. Remove one end of the swivel linkage (pull fuse first) and check for resistance on your steps as you move them independent in the disconnected mode. If you find that they seem to require sufficient force to actuate the steps in their full travel, you need to lubricate all hinge points while continuing to free up movement. What is happening is the controller (small blk box under step) senses resistance beyond design spec and interrupts power to the motor. That occurs before the fuse blows in some cases. After proper movement has been restored, reconnect and you should be good to go. Good luck !

The way to tell if your steps are binding beyond the designed loads, is after you disconnect one end of your linkage, reinsert the fuse and actuate the steps in the screen door /switch mode. That will tell you that your steps are binding, and need lube.

Just to update other owners of the 27 pursuit: the fuse appears to be under the dash by the driver. At least, there I found two 5 amp fuses for what seems to involve the stairs. They were fine so looks like I gotta schlep this to a local dealer.

End result: the controller was bad. Had it replaced today and the steps are working again!

Thats good news. Im guessing the dealer lubed that no lube step while they were at it as well...
