I'm very happy with ours. Very smooth stopping and stout. Rated for 8000 lbs so that twice our jeeps and I'm old school. I'm not quite sold on all the modern electronics. Mechanical suits me fine

I'm really leaning towards the RBE:
  • Did you also install a "breakaway cable", or just the cables that came with the Elite?
  • Did you do your own wiring?
  • What wiring harness did you go with?
  • Did you get the Tow Bar Rock Deflector? If so, what did you bolt to?
Looks like the Blue Ox base plates are BX1126.

Just noticed you are from Texas. We are considering a month or so in Aransas. Any opinions on this area?

I didn't put break away on. The tow bar is to secure with pins and safety cables. Then blue ox base plate has 6 large bolts to frame plus cables from plate to frame. It's my opinion but jeep will not disconnect I installed everything and it's not bad. The break cable for tow bar is tedious but not hard. I used wiring harness plug in for tail lights. I'll get u a part number for it. If u watch Amazon for elite ready brute you can catch it for 780$ instead of 1200$ else wear. Same with jeep tail light harness. Etrailer wanted 75$ and amozon damage package? 20 bucks. Lol. It took me a very long time to research all of this but I feel it has all come together great. From your Moho to toad and everything in between is like a chain. And a chain is as strong as its weakest link. As you know we all have a ton of money in all this and i can't afford failure but I can afford top shelf equipment

No rock deflector. Just think they waist of money. My opinion. I've pulled jeep 4000 miles never a ding. I think back wheels are to far foward. But I my put flaps on rear wheels been thinking on that just for water spray during rain

No matter what tow bar you get remember to keep it level. Ready brute has a tolerance of 2 inches above and 2 inches below level. I did a lot of calculating when I put the lift on my jeep matching up with rear of concord. Got lucky lol

I like it! Sweet set-up!

One thing I failed to mention why I should have gone with jjSpeedwagon's type of set-up - when using the Ready Brake and the Blue Ox Alpha (not sure if it's with all Blue Ox tow bars), Blue Ox has a "stow" feature. You collapse the tow arms, pivot them up 90 degrees and a pin goes into a slot, then you pivot the arms down to horizontal. Well, the cable on the Ready Brake likes to ride in this slot. What Ready Brake has done is make available a "stand-off" which the cable goes through to keep it away from the slot on the Blue Ox. Not wanting to throw another $18+ at the set-up, I purchased a 1" deep well socket, drilled it for the cable and also drilled and tapped the bottom to secure it on the "pin" of the Blue Ox. I'll have to take a picture tomorrow in the daylight.
  • I did install a breakaway cable. Also from Ready Brake.
  • My son did my wiring.
  • Went with the Hopkins 56203 Plug-In Simple Towed Vehicle Wiring Kit
  • No deflector..... yet. But, DW wants one
We did all the work ourselves. My son installed the Blue Ox baseplate and the wiring. I did the installation of the Ready Brake cable and breakaway cable.

Now, it's time to

I'm pretty confident that I can install the Base plate. My only thing is the wiring. The Hopkins kit looks pretty simple. I'd be interested in what you did, (part number)...I tend to sometimes make things more complicated than they deserve.

My JK isn't lifted, but I'm running bigger tires, (275/70/18) or 33".

JJ,
Looks like your pigtail has a 4 ROUND connector. The Hopkins 56200 has a FLAT connector. How did you hook the pigtail to the 4 FLAT connector on the Hopkins wiring kit? Looks like one of these setups might work better:
