What does this switch do?
Have had a 2013 Leprechaun on a Ford Chasis for 8 months and no one including a local Ford dealer can tell what the rocker switch above the side mirror controls does? Turn in on and turn it off and can't see anything that works or stops working. Any one know what it is for?

Of course the other posters are correct. You will see it work very well when there is dew, ice or snow on it!

But the mirrors are aftermarket, no? You can't expect them to know aftermarket added parts. Factory installed heated mirrors from Ford are on all the time with the key, no switch.

My factory Ford heated mirrors are not on all the time. Only with the rear defroster switch or MAX defrost when using the remote start.

Do you have a E-series cut-away motorhome?
The point is the switch is not factory. You cannot expect a dealer to know every aftermarket add-on.

No I dont. Do you?
It has nothing to do with my statement and my point about your post anyway.
I wasn't defending the dealer and agree with you there but you can't paint with that broad brush and say factory installed heated mirrors from Ford are on all the time. They are not.

I asked if you had one to see what Ford vehicle you are referring to because E-series & Super Duties with factory heated mirrors that I've worked on are switched on as soon as the key is turned on. Here's the schematic. So what are you referring to? The topic is a 2013 E-series and that is what I was referring to in my initial post.

More than likely the long arm mirrors were made by Velvac. Unless a rep from FR can confirm as far as I know they get cab & chassis w/o mirrors and add mirrors to suit. There is an option to get factory power mirrors but they look like the Super Duty ones below.

Bottom half of mirror is adjustable & they are heated,,,

I was referring to my 2017 F-250 SD since you first mentioned "all factory mirrors" and more recently Super Duties.
Not sure how current the schematic you referenced might be.
Some early Fords did have the heated mirrors on all the time but several years ago that option became part of the GEM module's function and changed from always on. The GEM module controls the ground circuit of the relay in your schematic based on various inputs.
I don't have access to a current EVTM (Electrical, Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) without running to the local dealer but here is the page from my owners manual with the heated mirror operation circled.
Granted, since this is a E series it may be different since it has no rear defrost so you might still be correct on it but the current Super Duty heated mirrors are not always on.

Like these? According to their website the top is power/heated & the bottom is manual/heated. Looks like Velvac has a product support site if you ever need anything.
Heres a link for parts for the 16" arms if that's what you have. These mirrors are the same from 2003-present.
https://secure.velvac.com/checkout/f...?parent=715441
I found all this because I was trying to get an image of the switch that they offer in their wiring kit but no luck.
Also, as a part of the "Motorhome Prep" package from Ford, the Cutaway chassis comes with a "mirror delete" option.
So like I mentioned earlier, Ford does not offer long arm heated mirrors on the Cutaway Motorhome chassis. The mirrors are aftermarket as far as I can tell. (See 2nd to last description in pic)

I try to always respond to the subject matter and initially commented on the Econoline chassis. The Vans are always behind in the technology. The F150 and newer Siperduties are lightyears ahead.
