Aviators What Happened to them

These are so nice, don't see many but why isn't FR building more?

I hardly ever see them for sale and when you do they are sold instantly.

My guess is because they are so expensive to build in a time when "cheap" and get them out the door is the highest priority. We were very fortunate to have bought one when we did.

What happened to the Aviators is a combination of things. As Blackhatmike6 said high cost of production was the big issue. The Aviators were made with unique and relatively expensive composite materials. Very large custom front windows, fiberglass front and rear caps, and a fiberglass roof added to the high cost. It also took about a week to build each one which is far longer than a typical travel travel. That resulted in high labor costs. Another issue was they were built in the middle of a recession. $80-90 thousand list price was more than most could or would spend on a camper. The price per square foot was very high. For the money you could buy a much roomier 5er. I find with the big front windows mine always feels very open and never too small. I have had my Wright-Flyer now for 3 years and believe it is as nice and well-built of a travel travel as has ever been produced.

At the moment, I own both models lol. The WF was my original choice, but couldn't find one that I could afford. So I bought an Electra at a ridiculous close out price. But about a month or so ago, a really nice silver WF came up for sale at a good price. So now I have both lol. And BTW, the Electra is for sale. only used 4 times since new. I just love the layout of the Wf more.

Yeah I guess they were a little overpriced but then again what isn't these days, but they sure do look nice. Worst part about these things is the depreciation is faster on these then a boat. We were going to get out of camping so we can have a boat in our backyard but found a deal on our 2013 Crusader. I would never buy new on RV's or Boats ever again.
