FYI. Anyone with a Carefree Freedom Freestyle awning needs to carry a 3/8 drive ratchet wrench with them to retract the awning when it fails...and it will. The wrench is inserted inside a removable round plug on the front cap of the awning and cranked in. An 18 inch long zip tie or piece of line that long to secure it in the closed position after it is retracted.

Thanks for the tip. I will be sure to have a ratchet available. Love the convenience, the aluminum case and the auto retract feature of the awning but wish they didn't seem so fragile. It would be hard though to go back to the old manual style. Too spoiled now!

Hi Everyone, we will be applying the tests, for the awning's motor, in this guide http://www.e-carefree.com/documentat...e%20Manual.pdf

This may help anyone else with the non-operational awning issue.

We are on our third motor from Carefree. There is a 800 number to call carefree. You can get the model number off your awning. There should be a label on the old motor or on your casing. Carefree is now replacing our entire awning. The mounting brackets broke on it as well and found out it was not mounted correctly from the last dealer that did work on it. It was a severe road hazard.YIKES! In fact it was falling off at the Rally. We were inside the camper head a bop sound and looked out saw the awning drifting down. Had to go out the rear door and hold it up until the workers go there to secure it. Evidently the free standing arms are a lot of drag on the motor.

Ours went out and we called them. Our went out with it extended and was trying to get home before the storm. The tech at the 800 Number walked us thru and how to find the model and serial numbers. Like I said previously we are on our third motor. Now having the whole Awning replaced. Good Luck

I didn't realize you were on your third motor. The dealer gave me the impression after mine failed during my PDI that only the initial factory motors were defective. The replacement motors were supposed to be good. Did you learn something new at the rally and is that why Forest River is replacing your entire awning?

Carefree Freedom Freestyle Electric Awning

Snowtosurf and all.
The part number in the parts list and the part number literally ON THE MOTOR are not the same. I sent Snowtosurf the number directly off the motor before I looked at the parts list in the owners manual. The one in the manual is R001712XXX. Don't even ask!!!!
The date of manufacture on my new motor is June, 2015. I don't see a DOM on my old motor. It was my "case connector" where the weld broke. I'm saving it as I believe the party isn't over yet. I welded it back up with three passes so it will never break again.
