Plastic Tag Covers

How many states outlaw plastic tag covers and why? We use them to keep from destroying our tags from boat trailers and other kinds of hookup devices. Every tag you see in GA with a dent in the center or have been pounded back flat with a rubber hammer, were caused by backing up to a boat trailer.
I have a Purple Heart tag that I would feel really bad smashing. The plastic covers offer at least protection from one smashing, then you need to replace it.
I'm told they are illegal in FL because the toll cameras can't photograph the tag. Go figure!

So you really think that the plastic cover will protect you tag from a dent when you ram the truck into the trailer hitch? I don't think so.

If you want to avoid a dent just get someone to spot you. Never dented a tag hooking up. The only reason for the cover is to obscure the tag.

Yea, I really KNOW for a fact the covers help protect the tag. How do I know, because I have dented my share over the years as have most of my friends. It was always backing up to a boat trailer before the days of rear cameras. "Ramming" is a bit much. When you have no one to spot for you, you just back up till you "tap" the trailer. The covers give you generally a one shot hookup.
My cover is clear as you can see. It does not obstruct anything. There isn't always someone around to help.
