What hitch is everyone using. Trying to figure out what works with the aviators is since it has to clear the hood

My question was related to the Aviator which is unique. Just wondering what other Aviator owners use that's all. I have had RVs for twenty years so not new to this but new to the Aviator.

I think a lot of us ignored the post because WDH is discussed ad nauseam and easy to search. Since you are asking Aviator specific (which, I have to admit I overlooked when I read your post because the A was not capitalized so I thought it was a typo) you need to put Aviator RV WDH Suggestion in the title of your thread.

And shame on your for the "wtf" post.... you needed to do a better job asking the question

I use a basic Reese WDH I bought in 1998. It is rated for 12,000. There is very little extra clearance when opening the hood but it works good for me. The hood is slightly adjustable and the bottom edge may need to be trimmed depending on what you buy. You can try looking up the Aviator owner named Rsracing1. He just bought a Wright Flyer and a new hitch. Send him a private message and ask what he bought. Let me know if have more questions and I will try to find the answer.

Sorry, I just noticed the picture you posted. I am assuming you have a hitch, don't want to buy a new one and can't get the hood open with it installed. Try playing around with hood mechanisms. See what you might be able to adjust. I ended up removing the left opening gas strut and replacing it with a prop rod. It still opens with little effort but may give you enough extra clearance and allow you to guide it by hand up over your hitch. It also makes the hood much easier to close but also means it will not stay open without a prop rod.

Glad you posted a photo and clarified the Aviator is a trailer. I was wondering why there'd be hood clearance issues since the hood is at the other end of an Aviator.

Thanks. The hitch I have on it is temporarily borrowed. I am considering the Blue Ox because it is about as low profile as I can find for clearance

I think I'm using a Equal-i-zer from Progress Mfg., which is a nice hitch - however it took some modification with a saw to remove some to the height to help the Aviator's hood function properly. As you noticed, the hitch needs to be low profile and/or have a shorter arm.

Hmmm. More expensive solution. I think the Propride hitches are the best at sway control. They offer a strap setup to hold the WD bars that in the picture on the website is VERY low profile. It might work. Give Sean, the owner a call and talk to him about your issue. He is VERY helpful.

My recommendation matches Saltman's.

Once the Equalizer (tm) is mounted and adjusted properly it can be welded to the trailer frame if wanted although just cutting off the parts of the adjustable bracket that stick above the frame works as well. Other than the adjustable bracket everything is below the top of the trailer frame.

Just found a bolt on chain hook that eliminates the supplied straddle device. You bolt it to the side of the trailer. It completely eliminates the interference with the hood.
That's my story and i am sticking to it.
