We are home from our first really long FR3 trip.
Happy to report that everything worked fine and we really enjoyed the coach. We had plenty of room for the 2 of us and did not have any mechanical issues.
Before this trip we did several modifications, as most of us do. (CHF, Fantastic Fan, Tire monitor system, Hard-wired surge protector, Pantry shelving, drawers added below dinette...)
We averaged about 7 days at each location and on driving days we logged about 250 miles/day. We always drove during daylight hours. Total trip was about 2K miles. Our gas mileage averaged around 7.3 mpg (towing a Fiat) driving between 60-65 mph.
What we learned:
We put the upper bunk down when we were parked. That gave us some extra storage room for "stuff" that accumulated during that stay.
We bought 4 hooks that slipped over the rim of the bunk bed. We used those to hang wind-breakers, dishtowels, etc.
We kept dirty clothes in a collapsable mesh carrier (with flat bottom) that fit right between the two closets in the bedroom. That worked very well. It was easy to carry to laundromat & carry clean clothes back.
We were in some pretty bad storms (Texas) and we felt pretty secure. We kept the weather radio on so it would let us know if storms came in during the night.
We always retracted the awing when we left the campsite. Stong winds come up in a hurry in Texas!
TV reception was sporatic. Some cities we got 2 channels & some we had 25! Same with internet connectivity (spotty in places).
There was one thing that was "distracting" - when the air conditioner was on it was very hard to hear the TV because the AC fan was so noisy. So we would have to turn the volume all the way up and then back down when the A/C cycled off & on.
Overall, we had a very successful "First Retirement Trip" experience!
