This is a common question and a common source of confusion on Class A and Class C motorhomes.
Because we have to purchase chassis in advance of building the motorhomes, the chassis manufacturer's model year and the motorhome model year often don't match. We might purchase a chassis at the end of 2015 and it will be a 2016 chassis. We change model years on motorhomes -- and on most trailers and fifth wheels as well -- in the spring. So if, for example, your motorhome was built in April or May of 2016, it's probably a 2017 model, even though the chassis VIN shows it as a 2016.
By law, it's the completed vehicle VIN that determines the model year of your motorhome, not the chassis manufacturer's "incomplete vehicle" VIN. The completed vehicle VIN for Forest River products will typically, but not always, begin with the characters "4X4." That's your vehicle's VIN.
