Question 2018 FR3 30DS USB port

On the center dash below the Pioneer radio and the toggle switches (in between the 2 12V ports) is a USB port. Is this a charge only port, an aux in port or both?

The USB port is to the Pioneer radio. I used it last month to update the firmware on the radio. I had to use an OLD 4 gig flash drive. It is only a 1 amp usb charger.

The port is not just for a firmware update. You can plug a thumbdrive into it that has music loaded onto it, and listen to it as you drive down the road. Road noise and engine noise is detrimental to the listening experience, tho.

I use bluetooth to play music files from my smart phone.

My I-pod Nano is old school...….No Bluetooth! …. and I'm too lazy to try and move all that music to my phone! I just wanted to know if I can plug in the cable from the Nano into that USB port & listen through the radio?

You prob have to look for an adapter with an input that matches your Nano device and the adapter would then have to have a USB output that you can plug into the USB input for your radio.

That said, with a mac or windows computer it's the easiest thing to move your music to a USB thumb drive, then throw that old nano player away in favor of up to date stuff just for the price of the thumb drive.
