30DS Air Conditioner

We are looking at getting the 30DS and live in Texas and wonder if the 15,000 single unit will handle the Texas summers?

Thanks

I live here. I had a 15000 in my Toy hauler, and it struggled to keep up if I was in the sun. It did a good job but not when it was 105 degrees. In the trees it was a lot better.

As long as Texas temps are below 90F or so. Some has installed a second AC in the rear roof vent and routed an extra 20 amp cord that could be plugged in while at the campgrounds. Usually if it hits 100F here, the 15k AC can keep it around 82 F inside without much door opening. Its a struggle though. It'll be something that we'll probably do by next year.

I know this doesn't help you guys but the FR3 on display at Goshen had a 16K Attwood AC in it. Im not sure when they did it but the factory rep told us they had switched to this AC w/heat pump in all 30ds models.

The specs say the Atwood units are 13.5k and 15k btu units with cooling equivalents of 16k and 18k. ie high efficiency heat pumps. If they work as touted, that would be a good thing.

For anyone interested in a 2nd unit at low cost, I have one available: http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...tml#post953888
