32DS and Sumo Springs

Has anyone else tried to install Sumo Springs to the rear axle of the 32DS? I am running into an issue where Forest River decided to weld a angle plate to the frame rail to protect the HVAC duct line, which is great, but now I can’t meet the 6.0” dimension location from the top of the frame rail to bolt the Sumo Spring bracket.

A little over two years ago I had Sumo Springs installed on our FR3 30DS. On the right rear of our unit there is a gusset welded to the frame that prevented the upper bracket from being positioned high enough to properly install the 8” Sumo Spring. I worked with Gerry Lamberti at Sumo Factory and they substituted a 7” for the 8” on both sides in the rear so the brackets could be installed lower to clear the gusset.

The FR3 32DS has a heavier F53 Chassis so Gerry might spec a Sumo Spring that can handle the additional load that’s 7” long. I found the Sumo Spring organization very helpful and the installed Sumo Springs made a significant improvement in ride and handling. I also installed Safety-T-plus, rear track bar, additional Roadmaster rear Torsion bar plus the the Sumo Springs and now our 30DS is fun to drive.

It's interesting that so many owners with the f53 chasis have to add so many components to improve the handling and ride. Why doesn't FR install these at the factory? I added the Blue Ox Mor Trac to keep from getting blown off the road by semis. Next is Sumo springs. They could do all this for less than 1k and have more satisfied customers.

I had that problem with mine. I ground off the tack welds this allowed me to move the shroud enough. Then I re-tacked the shroud, worked fine. I think I sent and email to the sumo guys about it.
