Air Conditioner quit

The wife and I were taking some supplies to the FR3 30 DS yesterday preparing for our summer trip that starts Friday June 17th...

It's pretty hot out here in Oregon (100 over the weekend) 90 in the motorhome, so we turned on the AC unit. Our coach is always plugged into 110v so it should have been a simple thing...

When we turned the thermostat to 69 degrees and the AC unit turned on like normal but only blows room temp air out of the vents...

We've only ever had it on one time for a couple days about a month after we bought the thing...

I guess it must be broke...

Dealer says bring it in on the 14th and they'll look at it I guess...

Has anyone else experienced this before?

They've had a run of bad units in the last couple of years. Yours might be one of them.
Have you tried the thermostat in other modes?

How about the simple stuff first (questions).

What are you plugging into....are you at your house. What type of outlet. What type of service is your RV..30 or 50 amp. Are you running the RV supplied 30/50 amp cord sole to a 15 amp outlet in your garage...or are you using any extensions?

Obviously the compressor sounds like it is not coming on just the fan. So..could be bad compressor but before assuming the worst I would look at the power source to the RV.

Maybe you have a 30 amp service setup at home or wherever you are...but you did not indicate.

If you have your doubts about power, fire up the Onan and see if that brings it to life. But don't expect too much if its 100F out. I think the best you'll manage will be about 85F inside. These units REALLY need 2 AC with the large front window trapping in the heat.

Thanks for the responses....

The coach is plugged into 30 amp using the coach's cord into the power box.

I did try running off of the Onan generator and I got the same results....

The motorhome is under some shade trees so the afternoon sun rarely beats down on the roof... the window shade is pulled and I have all the roof vents open fully as I installed Max Air covers a couple months ago.

It was 100 outside and inside the unit it was 90. I went over to the dealership and looked at their other FR3's and their trailers, and they all appear to be blowing cold air. There is no doubt my air conditioner is not blowing cool or cold air.

Well that eliminates power supply to the rv.

Damn it. Time to change plans and head north to Alaska. :-) As much as we want to blame FR, its really a Domestic quality issue. Hope its resolved, and if you get get a new AC, I'd move over to the Atwood 18k (equivalent). Looks like it uses less power on start up or slap in 2-13.5k Atwood models...:-) Hopefully this summer I can get around to put in a 13.5k in our rear roof vent and I hope (hope) I can run both on the 4k Onan. lol. If not, it'll have its own extension cord.

Yeah, so far I've been pretty happy with the FR3... There has been nothing wrong with the unit other than the P-traps under the kitchen sink not being hooked up properly that was a Quality Control thing on Forest River...
We've had the main TV quit... (Furrion)
A heater wire on a solenoid come loose... (Dometic?)
A wire on the Hot Water tank burn up somehow?.... (Subruban Propane)
But all those things were problems with the supplier...

I'm pretty upset that the Air Conditioner quit and that I found it by chance as we were putting stuff in the M/H for our summer trip. I could maybe see if it was over used, but we've only ever used it once before (last July)... but I can hardly fault Forest River, as they used Dometic just like all the other guys out there.... maybe it's time to start complaining to Dometic's QC dept for putting out crap parts.

Using an AC does not hurt it actually helps it last longer. By using it you allow the heater in the compressor to rid the compressor oil of any condensation and such. Like your generator or other equipment I feel they should be exercised. this is JMHO

I saw a recent article where Dometic bought Atwood (Air Command).

I'm on my 4th Dometic AC in a little over 2-years. Quality is definitely an issue. The FR3 really needs 2-AC units as it is incapable of cooling the unit when the outside temp reaches 90-degrees.

Dang, that's not good. Did your AC unit just quit or did it still blow warm air around?....

Would a bigger unit work better than 2-units?...

We only used ours once before last summer... I though it did ok. It was mid 90's and we had the unit set at 70 degrees and it kept it pretty nice in the HM....
We live in Oregon and don't see day after day after day of 100 deg's out here... 3 days a year maybe but we do see 90's often enough.... This thing is brand new and just up and quit blowing cold air....

It's not just you. I currently have a dead number 4. Switching over to Coleman.
