Air Conditioner Went Kaput 2015 FR3 30DS

We were in Tucson in March of this year, and the air conditioner started acting strange. And then the breaker would trip every so often. I saw other posts about moving the breaker to a different slot, so that it would not overheat next to the 30 amp breaker. The problem still continued, tripping the breaker every hour or so. We returned home and brought it in for service. Come to find out, the air conditioner was faulty, drawing too much amperage.

The service tech said the air conditioners on the 2015 FR3's were recalled. I cannot find anything on a recall. We replaced the unit ($1200). Does anyone, or has anyone experienced this issue? Will FR reimburse for at least part of the cost?

Any thoughts out there?

See if you can get some more info on the "recall" that the tech mentions. Its the first I've heard. $1200 seems steep IMO for a drop in replacement for an AC unit that goes for around $7-800 new. I hope FR would help you out with the expense if there is such a recall out there. If you can get a copy, please share. Thanks.

I don't think it was so much of an FR recall, but more of a Dometic (I'm assuming this is what you have) recall. There were a batch of 2015 15k ACs that were on multiple different units and brands. And, it was probably more of a TSB than a recall.

What specific model do you have?

Also, have you checked the warranty on the AC unit? If I have the same model, I could probably get a copy to you. However, the work has been done already, so... it may be too late.

Dometic A/C comes with a two year warranty. The second year you should have taken it to their authorized service centers. FR is out of it after the first year unless you bought the FR 2nd year. I would call Dometic on this..Good luck...

On our new 2017 360PDEK our ac went out the first week...no help from dealers so I got up there and discovered that the telephone style wiring from the thermostat was sitting in water...I cut and replaced the connectors with a tool and parts from ace hardware. I called FR and they said the return vents were to shallow do they sent me two more matching vents covers. I cut two more return vents inline with the originals...now the condensation has been taken care of and water is not leaking through our running ceiling fan as before! I drilled out some of the plastic walls housing the ac. To allow better drainage too...I just was appalled at the lack of help RV dealers want to do warranty work

AC Failures

No mention of the voltage. When the voltage goes down, AC and other devices draw more amps/current, that's heat. AC is one item that will try to run on low voltage and end in melt down. I have a Progressive Industries surge protector, LED screen shows voltage, amps etc., shuts down power for low or high voltage on either leg. Camp ground power was L1 120V, L2 90V (AC), they corrected the situation.

Getting there...

FR (Cel Lopez) has been great. Got me the info I need to continue to pursue warranty path. Contacted Dometic, and they were FAST and very helpful. Have the paperwork needed and will submit warranty request. In all, everyone has been helpful and positive.

Getting things fixed on our FR3 is not usual business as we live in a remote area and don't have the access to services that most have. We had to get the AC replaced when an appointment window was available, and could not wait for three weeks at a Camping World (Winter is here NOW and already have four inches of white on the ground, and we area leaving for the South soon, no time to wait around). So when you get a fix, get the paperwork started then and there. It will save you time and effort later.

And most important, be nice to people. If you approach your problem as if its everyone else's fault, you will get bad results. People do want to help you, and they do care. Be nice and be positive, you will be happy with the outcome, we are :-)

Dometic is GREAT

Just an update. With our AC issues and how we approached the problem, Dometic was awesome and we were able to reach an agreement. I would recommend Dometic in the future. They take care of customers who take care of them. Thank you Dometic!

Dometic 15k a/c failure

Our 2012 front unit crapped out a couple of months ago, probably had about 100 hours on it. Expecting the rear one to go as well. Repair guy said they are dropping like flies. Time for FR to step up.

30 DS 2014 Ours was the circuit breaker over heating and tripping. Added a separate 20 amp breaker for the AC and fixed the problem.
