Awning will not extend - Need help

One morning, after working fine for two years, our 2016 FR3 electric awning will no longer extend. The batteries are fully charged. I understand there is an in-line fuse and would like to check it first, but I'll be darned if I can find it.

I'm not that handy with electrical things. Would really appreciate a picture if you know where it should be and what it should look like?

Also are there other causes for the awning not extending? Any help would be appreciated.

I had a case where the awning would not move. Turned out there was a dead spot in the motor after sitting a while. I moved the awning manually a couple of inches, then it worked fine. Haven't tried this year yet.... At least on 2015, there is a rubber plug on top of the front arm and inside is a bolt that you can turn with socket wrench/drill.

Again talking from 2015, you can unscrew the panel where the awning switch is located and see if there is 12VDC on any of the switch terminals. The fuse on my coach is in-line in one of the many wires in the first compartment door behind the entry door.

Good luck.

On my Georgetown there are 3 wires with in line fuses directly connected to the positive post of the house batteries.

Propane detector
Power steps
Power awning

Check your house batteries and see how many you’ve got there.

May want to also check in the BCC (battery control center) for a fuse or a circuit breaker that plugs into a fuse position in the BCC.

Have to give this a try. Last time I tried the awning it would not deploy. If I hit the rocker switch "in" it would try to retract but it is already fully retracted so I know there is power. When I hit the switch "out" to deploy though, nothing happens.

Mine just gets stuck due to sitting too long. Had to push and tug on it while depressing the extend button.

Awning problems

Could be a faulty switch. If possible get a voltmeter to measure the voltage after the switch. It should be reversing the polarities between extend and retract.

Thumbs up Thank you!

Thanks to all of your who provided great instructions (and especially to Larry-C who provided the great pictures). It was the fuse.

Just as an fyi, I have a full extended warranty, but the dealer here in La Quinta California (Holland RV) refused to even look at my FR3 since I bought it in Oregon. Last laugh turned out to be mine!

Did you have to call FR to get that dealer to work on it?

FR can't make them work on it, if the customer didn't buy from them.
FR can ask them to but the RV world doesn't work like the Auto industry.

This is common no matter the RV manufacturer.

Good to know.

Not that I will ever set foot in CA again.... That's another dealer to avoid.

It's a nationwide issue, not just California.
RV owners have run into the same dealer problem in every state except Hawaii.

Mobile RV techs are better anyway from what I have heard. I have done all my own work.

Mobile tech work on everyone's rig and usually get refrenced by the campgrounds. If you are worried about warrenty work get it approved in advance.
