Back flushing black tank

Recently we back flushed our black tank and noticed water in shower from around skylight. Could we have filled tank too full and water went up breather pipe and leaked into shower thru roof?

Thanks for the replies. We had no noticeable roof leak previously.

When you used back flusher, was the tank dump valve open?

The tank value was open and the toilet overflowed

If your valve was open the entire time your drain may be at least partially plugged. All the water from the flush should've went straight out.

Or did you fill (overfill?) your tank before opening the valve?

To be clear, water was coming from out of the skylight? Did the water have a black tank oder?

Is it possible the water was condensation from a recent shower?

Again, to be clear, the black tank was fully drained?

How long did it take for the toilet to overflow?

Also, typically, the seal on the toilet will prevent backflushing to occur. now, if you setp on the pedal and open the valve, all bets are off (don't ask me how I know...just trust me )

It initially sounds like you have a clogged line somewhere. Waiting for your reply so we can problem solve some more.

So is this how you backflushed?
close sewer valve
turn on water to backflush black tank

I left the black valve open the entire time when flushing and back flushing. We had water on bathroom floor which was indicator of overflow. No recent shower so likely not condensation from shower, however we're in SW Florida where temp is 89 and AC is working overtime.

I'm confused. The valve was open the entire time and it still overflowed?

Me too (I'm confused )

So you had the black valve open, the backflus on, water from the black tank was flowing from the black tank to the sewer hose and it still overflowed?

Were you using something like this?

Think it's your check valve in the tank flush line....possibly located in sink cabinet

When water pressure is applied, through the flush line, a plastic disc in vale is pushed into a seat, then the pressure open a back-flow check valve (in same housing), then water flows to tank. If disc doesn't seat, we have water where it's not needed.

I'm guessing like Bob, you really didn't have a tank overflow causing the water on the floor and ceiling by the skylight. Rather, the back flow/anti-siphon valve plumbed into your tank flush line was/is leaking and water sprayed out of it.

As mentioned, it is 'usually' near the bathroom sink inside the vanity.
I realize it's a stretch to believe the water sprayed out through the vanity onto the shower skylight but stranger things have happened.

Were any out side (roof) vents open that day? While in Nashville last summer and it was HOT, our air ran all the time...vents were closed...found condensation in bathroom and next to a/c in kitchen one morn. Opened 2 vents, dried up water, and no more problem

I'm not in the unit presently. I'll check the valve under the vanity when we return. Thanks for all the help/suggestions

Back in unit for the night. No indication of leakage under the bathroom vanity. As initially stated, could this be a combination of toilet overflow and breather pipe filling and spilling into shower skylight? We had rain tonight and no indication of roof leakage into the shower skylight.
