bar at bottom of door on FR3 30DS

Progolfer here and I have another maybe crazy question. Recently at the beach, I opened the door and the wind blew it out of my hand and against the motor home and broke the tension bar on the bottom. Can anyone give me the correct name for this piece of equipment so I can reorder it or how to repair it. Everyone on this Forum has been great on answering my questions. I just wish that I had the knowledge some of you have about camping and motor homes. If you ever need questions answered on golf let me know. I can help on that level. All replies are greatly appreciated.

It is most commonly called a strut, also could be referred to as a shock, prop or spring. Here is a link to purchase from amazon.

Yep, we all started this way, this forum helps educate us to better understand our RVs. And in due time you will be able to help others with their questions, just as we help you with yours. Even the most knowledgeable member here still learns a thing or two. I am always learning and checking out other people's posts, to learn and prevent it if it comes up on my end 😀

We have a 2016 FR3 30DS and the strut on our door broke recently, too. My husband called

and he sent us a replacement strut because our motorhome is still under warranty. We just had to mail the original back to him. Hope this helps!

Take it into an Auto Zone store and they will match it up. They carry a good selection of struts. The strength is printed on the strut. (30#, 40# etc. ) then match length. It should pull off the small balls at each end.

I had the same thing happen on my Coachmen Mirada. Part of the problem was they installed a 50 lb. strut, so even with no wind it would fly open, and was really hard to pull closed. When mine broke, I replaced it with a 15 lb. version, and it works much better (still have to watch the wind).
The ideal would be a strut that would dampen the opening direction, like a built-in shock absorber, but I haven't found anything like this.

The fitting that attaches strut to coach was stripped on mine at PDI. Total Value gave me two new end fittings and sent me a replacement stut with fittings.
15 IL force, 14/15 which I believe is the size. The tag says Industrial Gas Spring inc. 800-214-7034 # G3:89z100211bb0067.

I replaced the strut on the door on our 30DS. I wasn't crazy about how it opened too quickly and hit the awning mast. I did a search and found that the lower the # on the opening pressure, the slower it'll open. I bought a 9# and it does open slower and still closes easily.

I moved both anchor points 2" closer to the door hinge and accomplished the dampening while opening and also helps close the door when it gets within about 6"-8" of being closed.
