If it weren't there would be an ignition cut off while in down position.

Some here have modified so it's storage and has a door and thus always down. It's no issue driving with down.

We leave the bunk down when our family (four adults) travels. Makes it easier to get on the road in the morning with one less thing to do...

I've driven with the bunk down a couple of times. It's safe. Only problem you might run into is hitting your head when exiting driver or passenger seat. 😫

And with our 28DS it doesn't stay up on magnets while going down road anyways. Only problem with it down is hitting your head when you get out of either front seat.

Removed ours. Built cabinets in front. Sealed the space where the actuators were and around and behind the cap. A lot less noise.

Tried using with it down and at 6'1" found I hit my head a lot. No kids so didn't need the space.
