My understanding is that I should check the fluid levels on the house batteries. However, when I go out there and look, the batteries are awkward to get to AND I can't seem to get the black caps off. Not even sure what part should come up.
Any suggestions on how to do this and how often it should be done?
Here they are. As you can see, the batteries are back in there. It's difficult just to reach them much less figure out how to get the caps off and then look in for the water level.
That's the easiest access to the house batteries I've seen. ;-)
Each battery has two caps (see red arrow). Use a large flat head screw driver and lift them off by prying from the bottom. You can then look into each hole to see where the water level is. I always fill mine so that the water just touches the bottom of the hole cylinder. Hope it helps.
Be sure to use only distilled water as tap water contains contaminates which will ruin the battery plates. Also a good flashlight will help to look down the holes to see exactly the fluid level. Also, do as the above the poster suggests--- do not overfill!
Does anyone have specs on the Amp hours brand or model number of the factory provided coach batteries? The chassis battery just says Motorcraft with no number.
I was in the coach battery panel today hooking up my inverter and the batteries seem to have no markings brand or model on them. These must be Ford issue stock batteries. Would be nice to know the ratings.
https://www.flow-rite.com/This product is the solution for hard to reach or hard to see inside batteries. Fills battery to correct level. I have used this system for years with no adverse issues.
One additional comment.....the screwdriver does work well to pry the caps off but be sure not to accidentally touch both a positive and negative terminal at the same time. Such a slip may not cause any pain but it will cause great excitement 😜
