Cracked Living Room Vent

Hi all,

I posted once before on this but I was incorrect with my wording. I have a 2016 30ds and the plastic vent cover on the roof has cracked. It is the vent that rolls up w a handle and is located in the center of the Rv above the couch.

Can anyone recommend where to buy a factory replacement or the dimensions so I can look for a possible aftermarket?

Thank you,
Ed

Any trailer dealer will have the plastic cover, they are used on enclosed trailers as well. I'm sure you could also find them online.

Something you may want to consider, if you're going to replace the vent, might as well add a fan at the same time. Just a thought.

There are three different mfgs and they all use different hinge designs. Go up take the old cover off and take it with you to any RV parts store and pick the one that matches your hinge type.

Yes, the hinges vary between models. Take pictures from inside and outside to take shopping. And, as was mentioned, this could be a perfect time to add a fan if not already there. You probably need to take the trim off inside to remove the screen and then the opening crank arm. If you are thinking of a fan upgrade, look around after taking down the trim to see if you have two wires there to power a fan. I had a service shop do mine and they had to remove the entire vent system and re caulk as the new vent was installed.

Only about three types...

There are only about three types. They are visually distinctive and dimensionally different. Take a photo of yours and measure the overall width and length. Then view them on Amazon and pick the right one. Amazon shows the shape and dimensions. Visit the Camco website to confirm part numbers if desired.

These are real easy to replace yourself.

From the inside, take off the winder knob/crank and take down the screen. Then remove the two screws which hold the windup assembly in place. Slide the windup assembly until it goes off the end of the track on the cover. If there's a clip on the track or assembly, observe how it is placed.

Now, on the roof, look at your new cover. You will see that the hinge is a cavity running across the entire side. At the end are two little tabs which can be bent over. On the old vent cover, take your long nose pliers and unbend the tab at one end (or both) so you can slide the cover sideways off the vent. Then slide the new cover on and bend both tabs. (It's easier to bend one first before installing.)

Return inside and place the end of the windup assembly into the track on the new cover, then mount it with two screws. Replace the screen and the windup handle.

This should take less than 15 minutes.

As I recall, there are two types of hinges and they go by the date of manufacture. Your 2016 coach would use the new model hinge.

I installed Fan-Tastic Vents and covers in all of my roof vents. I can open the vent even when it is raining. Two have a wireless remote as my wife cannot reach the vent without a stool.

FR3 is wired for ceiling vent fans.
