Dash, miles to empty... off?

Our 1st RV and we have about 1500 miles on or 2018 FR3 DS32.

On the instrument panel i do like to use the miles to empty text that is provided by Ford. I know i have an 80 gallon tank. But even after filling it only reads 180 and then after i get past the halfway point it seems at some time add more miles to the reading, just seems weird to me... is this normal?

Any explanations?

TIA

Not normal, mine will read around 500 when the tank is full.

2015 30DS, depending on my most recent average mph at fill-up, my miles to empty will show 560 (7MPG) occasionally up to 640 (8MPG).

Just like a car I once had, if you didn’t turn the car off when fueling the gauge moved very slowly. Once the car was turned off “miles til empty” jumped to where it should be.

Is your ignition turned off when fueling ? That would be my only guess.

I responded to your other thread and thought of something else.

It's too soon for an accurate calculation. With an 80 gallon fuel tank and only 1500 miles, the computer likely doesn't have enough data to calculate an accurate Miles to Empty guesstimate.

I can speak to this as my old '11 F150 would never be accurate as we towed our trailer and a couple tanks thereafter. It would usually take running 500+ miles without towing the trailer for the truck to have enough data to calculate an accurate MTE.

I know if your case, this is a motor home; however, if it is just out of the break in period and you haven't done many consistent highway miles, the MTE calculation will read very conservative.

Just my $0.02.

The rig does have about 3,300 miles... we bought it with the 1300 or so miles used to drive it from Forest River to South West Florida.

Try dIsconnecting engine battery for a few minutes! It should reset computer. Give you a more accurate reading .
