Disable the steps?

Is there a way to disable the steps so they don't come out when you open the door? Sometimes I like to park right next to a curb and the steps won't come out.

Just let the steps hit. Shouldn't hurt them.

I agree with Knoxie89; As of about 2015 the design was changed such that it's the detection of a high current drain in the motor that stops the stairs. The motor won't be damaged. But, I also wanted direct control over the stairs deploying. See a related post.

There you'll find that I added a jumper switch around the magnet switch for the screen door. Just makes the stairs think the screen door is closed.
