Door struts

The front door of my 2016 FR3 30DS front door tries to pulls out of your hand when opening the door and, when open catches any wind, both events causing the strut to pull out of the housing. Once that happens, the housing threads are weakened and the problem happens more and more frequently. I have replaced the strut with a like model but the problem has reoccurred frequently.

I am hesitant to move the struts as some have suggested because I am just not sure I could install the base plates without the danger of them puling out and causing significant damage and as I am under warranty, that could cause even more problems. So... what do you think about installing either a much lighter strut as some have suggested, or alternatively JB Welding the strut into the housing?

Have you considered adding a second one up top?

I had the same problem (but my warranty is long gone).
I found one that had metal on both ends instead of plastic.

And a chain with spring would work also up top to limit max opening size to less than the strut length. To prevent pulling out.

What we did was just add a para-cord around a screw that is cinched in the center of the door frame to the top (center) of the door. Its adjust just so that the paracord will absorb the shock before the actual strut. This will save stress of the ends of the strut so they don't break. Reference this post (start at #202): http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...-78734-21.html

And make sure your strut is sized appropriately. I think there are some on the forum that have received from the factor with an oversized unit.

We use this one:
