F53 Chassis Cruise Control Cancel

Did you know that the "RES" button on your cruise control will cancel cruise and remember the set speed? Then just hit "RES" again to re-engage cruise.

I thought I'd share this important (at least to me) function. This works at least on my 2015 F53 chassis under my FR3 30DS.

The chassis manual and the markings on the steering wheel indicate that to cancel cruise while in cruise you have to tap the brake if you want to have the system remember your set speed. Hitting "OFF" or "COAST" will cancel cruise but also will lose the set speed.

Many times I simply want my foot to take over the speed and don't like having to move my foot to the brake and back which also blinks my taillights. It's a smoother takeover if my foot is already on the accelerator when the cruise cancels. Hitting "RES" while in cruise does this much better.

Hope this helps others. BTW, I discovered this by accidently pushing "RES" while in cruise.

The "coast" function will also slow you down and set a new cruising speed. For example, if you're set at 65 and are coming into a 55 zone, simple press and hold the "coast" button until you slow to 55, then release it and 55 will be your new cruise setting. Reverse the process by pressing "res(ume)" until your speed increases to 65 and then release.

Actually I think it's hold the "SET/ACCEL" to increase to the new speed wanted.

Oops! On the Ford, I think you're correct.

I always write too much and confuse the point. The point is that "RES", when in cruise, acts like a "CANCEL" that many other cars have.

If you just tap the set accel or coast buttons it will change your set speed by 1 mph up or down for each tap. (only when cruise is already engaged)

Thanks a lot for this info. This was bothering me every time I was on cruise mode. I could not figure out why there was not a cancel function on the wheel. I will certainly put this to the test in the Spring.

I discovered the same thing on an over 4300 mile trip this last summer up and down hills. I appreciate that the folks behind me don't see brake lights from the tapping when I just want to take cruise off temporarily. Of course I got a "what are you doing over there" comment from the right side. Thanks for letting everyone know.

My 2011 Georgetown on Ford's F53 chassis also has this feature.
