Finish on the FR3

Hi everyone, I have a question for all owners of the FR3. While camping at Myrtle Beach, SC, a man from Keep It Clean Detailing was cleaning and waxing the motor home beside us. I talked with him and he informed me that he did not wax or clean FR3s. He told me that the finish on the FR3 is not paint but a synthetic finish. He also told me that Forest River or the dealer will not tell you this. The finish after a few years will fade to a dull color and no amount of waxing will help. He said that a lot of people have contacted Forest River about this, but with no results. He also informed me that he will not wax a FR3 because of this problem. I told him that I have not heard anything about this but I was going to contact the great people on the forum to see if anyone has had any problems with the finish fading. So this is my question, HAS ANYONE HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE FINISH FADING ON THEIR FR3? All replies are appreciated especially the older models of the FR3.

Yes, it's gel coat not paint. Not sure why you can't wax it? Seems to me wax coats and protects from fading UV rays. Yes gel coats fades over time....ummmm. ..just like paint. Couldn't comment on which will fade first. On my 3rd summer and still looks the same as it did when purchased. And yes, I use wax in my wash.

Heading into year 3-I use a wash with a built in wax and cover it in the 7 months of Maine winter and it still looks as good as new

Wondering, 303 protectant has great UV protection properties. The way to use the product, in my understanding is to whip it on, then kinda buff it off dry... I'm wondering if it would be a great protectant for the sides of our FR3's. So far I use the product on the roof and all the seals found on the slides, and compartments. I also use it on the clear bubble on the roof over the shower, just because of its UV protection.

Mine is still looking new after three summers in the sun. Just regular car wash soap with the wax built in (like TravellingBs). Absolutely no problems here (except some chipping on the black grill).

FR is not the only manufacturer that uses gel coat. Is he not doing any gel coats?
