RV maker plans three facilities, 396 jobs

An Indiana-based subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway that makes recreational vehicles plans to construct three facilities in the region and create 396 jobs to support its three new product lines.
Forest River Manufacturing plans to invest more than $7 million in the Village of White Pigeon, south of Portage, just north of the Indiana state border, according to the
Michigan Economic Development Corp., the state’s marketing arm, today.
Michigan was chosen over competing sites in Indiana.
Forest River Manufacturing is considered a world leader in the RV industry. It produces travel trailers, fifth wheels, pop-up tent campers, park model trailers and destination trailers, as well as commercial vehicles, buses, pontoons and more.
Incentives
The project will receive a $350,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.
The Village of White Pigeon is offering support to the project in the form of property tax abatement.
In addition, the state’s Michigan Strategic Fund awarded the Village of White Pigeon $1.6 million in Community Development Block Grant funds for the project.
The funds will be used toward on-the-job training for 264 employees at the new facilities.
