We picked up our 2016 30DS a couple of weeks ago. We waited for the 2016 specifically for the 18K BTU Atwood Air Commando and some other upgrades. It hasn't been too hot in Austin but I'll provide feedback once it starts warming up to the 90 - 100 degree Texas heat we're used to. This is our first RV so I don't have anything to compare it to but so far so good!

good luck with the 1800 atwood the research I did on it indicated the cold air out put is 15000 - think the 18000 just means it has a heat strip from what the specs called out. Don't b surprised if you want to add the second unit. I have the 15000 in the front and will add the 13500 this Tuesday ( if it gets here on Monday)

A neighbor of mine says the best fix is to put one of those wrap around shades on the outside of the windshield when you are parked- says it cools his coach 10-15 degrees (with ac on) when it is 90 degrees plus and he can still see thru it - says he can spy on the neighbors and they cant see him- but only in daytime at nite he cant see out but neighbors can see in ..,.LOL

Forest River agreed to replace my 15K Dometic with the 18K Atwood, under warranty. They also moved the AC off of the main breaker and onto its own breaker which will help with the breaker getting too hot and tripping.

I'll be picking it up from the dealership this Friday, and taking it out the same day. Supposed to be 92 where I'm headed, this Friday. I'll report back how well it works.

We don't have a FR3 but we do have a 15k in back and a 13.5k in bedroom and on a 100 deg. day we can make it 65 deg. inside with no problem and at night 55 deg. cause that's as cold as the stat will go. LOL Even the dog gets cold. LOL if you could add some insulation some where that would help you. A second A/C unit is always good in Texas. Ours does have a 50amp service also.

Talking AC

Just got back from first trip with second ac installed on my fr3. Got it out of shop where the guys installed it for me just in time for the trip.
One day it got up to 88 degres, which is not much of a test, but both ac on would freeze me out. Will have to report more when the wx gets warmer. Expect it to work great though. Second ac is wired separately and separate wire is run to an aux plug in to the power pole. Very neat installation thanks to the pics i received on the forum.

Got back from our trip with the Atwood AC. It was 93 outside and once again, the AC couldn't keep up. The Atwood is MUCH more quiet than the Dometic, but it also doesn't blow as hard.

The heat pump worked well at night after it finally cooled down.

I don't think that 1 unit is good enough no matter which one you have.

I did some research on the atwood 18000- what I saw was that even though it is called the 18000, it only puts out 15000 cooling ac units, the extra 3000 is for the heat out put. That on atwood website.
