FR3 Automatic Steps

I have a 2018 FR3 32DS. There is a switch just inside the door mounted on the end of the couch to turn on/off the automatic stairs. I cannot get the steps to stay extended in either switch position. Anyone have any ideas?? Thank you.

If your steps are Kwikee Steps the step switch needs to be on for the steps to stay extended with the door closed. The step switch is typically illuminated when ON. I believe power (fuse) for the step switch is inside the Battery Control Center (BCC) box. That 12 volt input from the step switch via the BCC to the steps control module sets the logic for the steps to stay extended with the door closed. The magnetic screen door switch also plays a part. The screen door switch must be OPEN with the door open and CLOSED with the door closed. Ignition switch must be OFF for the steps to stay extended with door closed. Ignition switch ON will override step switch ON with door closed. The steps will always extend when opening door regardless step switch ON/OFF and/or ignition ON/OFF. Now, if your steps are not of the Kwikee variety this synopsis is a moot input.

Just to confirm.....your ignition should be “off” for proper testing. Not even in “acc”. Then recheck door operation with this switch just inside between off and on.

Confirmed, engine not started, keys not in ignition.

I had the same issue with our 2019 30DS. I rewired the switch so it is directly interrupting power to the step motor. Of course, we HAVE to remember that the steps won't retract when the ignition is on!
