FR3 Driving

Am I a big baby or is the FR3 really hard to drive? I drove yesterday in windy conditions and really had problems In a 70 mph zone, I was holding about 62.

If the winds are forecast to be bad, I park my rig.

Winds can ruin your day faster than any other weather condition.
Speed of course makes it much worse.

I personally would not be driving 70. I avg 60. There are starring assist shock absorbers you can add to help but as you read these postings you will discover the installation will depend on a well aligned front end and well balanced tires. If you choose to buy a steering assit be sure to insist that the installation include fine tuning and adjustments.

Yea, I don't drive much faster than 62-63 and if the side winds are that crazy try opening all the windows so the wind can just blow threw you FR3.

Wyoming is a very windy state. All the west wind gets blocked by the Rockies in Colorado and it all gets piped thru Wyoming.

As a matter of fact, in Wyoming no interstate highway should run north or south. I've rocked a big truck and have had light loads in Wyoming, best to park your rig nose into the wind and set the brakes.

Your no big baby! I feel the same way about mine. I have added a Safe-T-Plus steering stabilizer, a rear trac bar , wheel alignment & done the cheap handling fix and am still white knuckled at 55 mph. I wish I had gotten a fifth wheel at this point.

You must do the cheap handling fix; which is adjusting front and rear sway bars! Makes driving in the wind a snap. Keep speed down as it is not a car.

Carl17 do you know of any one who has posted any pics of the Cheep Sway Bar Fix? I'd sure like to see some.

Pictures of the CHF really not needed
These are sway bars, under no load when coach is on level surface
Undo bolts both sides, push/pull into new position, reinstall bolt in holes closer in
Front adjustment takes less 1 hr
Rear, the double bolt attachment must be flipped around, about 1 hr

There are a number of pictures of the Cheap Handling Fix on the web. Google "Cheap Handling Fix Pictures" and you'll get a number of returns.

wind and steering stabilizer

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who has to white-knuckle it in the wind. Just drove thru Arizona, NM, Texas, and Louisiana and had some challenging drives. I do check a national wind map to make sure I'm not driving into trouble, but those gusts can still get me.

So, I've been wondering about steering stabilizers, namely how much they help, what the down-sides are, and which ones are recommended. I already have had heavy-duty sway bars installed, which do help with normal driving, but don't seem to help that much with side winds.

Oh, and I'm towing a Jeep Wrangler.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks. That's another thing I'll have checked at my next servicing.
