The day shade blocks about 95% of UV rays, so it keeps the sun (heat) out, but you can still see out. Also, it's difficult to see in during the day, so it gives one a little privacy, too.

Thanks for the inspiration!

(posted in http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ons-84721.html as well)

I just recently joined the forum. We purchased our '16 FR3 30DS @ the Pomona show this fall. Had to have some repairs done (yep, already!) and just got 'er home. Can't wait to start making some mods. So, needless to say, I'm in love with this thread. LOVE all the mods y'all have made and am incredibly inspired!

Hi, FPO1123. While scrolling through the pics on this thread, I noticed you and another '16 30DS owner had photos that included what looks like a stereo console or something similar on the side panel of the "broom closet", above your message board. I'm so curious, what is that? Ours didn't come with anything installed there, did y'all add that?

Top favorite mods we'll be making ourselves:
- Shelves to turn broom closet into pantry
- Shelf added to kitchen and bath cabinet
- Backsplash in kitchen and bath
- Dash support
- Sliding drawer/baskets in storage space under booth seat

I would LOVE to install the central vac! We'll have our two cats in tow, so that vac would be amazing. Definitely something I will explore further.

Sorry to ramble, but I have one more thing to share. I noticed a few people talking about and showing fixes for the bunk magnets (overcab or elsewhere). Our bunk dropped (just that little bit before the motor's req'd, thankfully) while we were driving our rig home from the dealer. Turns out the metal casing was too high and it didn't allow for complete and constant contact between magnets. We had the dealer fix it. They shaved the metal down and now it's super secure - as it should've been in the first place.

Hello stephB. My fr3 is a 2015 and what you see is the house stereo. The dash radio was a cheap single din radio cd player. I did take that out and installed a double din with GPS in the dash, it also has blue tooth and USB for our phones. Welcome to the fr3 world. When you get your coach set up you will really enjoy it.

New owner of an FR3

Hi there, I'll be picking up mine 2014 FR3 30DS this Friday, we are very exited and this forum is very helpful. I would definitely will take your ideas, we need W/D, the BBQ looks fantastic, and of course the additional A/C. We are from Homestead, FL and it gets really hot, not enough for a 13,500 A/C unit.

few questions for you guys;
what's the average mpg with and without a car behind

thanks

Marine75: Your mileage will depend on how heavy your foot is (lol). Our 30DS averaged 8.1mpg towing our Honda CRV driving 65mph. Without was just under 9 (admittidly we drove closer to 70 w/o toad)

Really like the side table on the bed right side. Did you construct it?

Made the first modification today on my 30DS...
With the Motorhome "plugged in" most of the time while it's parked on my RV slab, I kept wondering how to keep bugs and critters out of the large storage area in the back of the coach.
When you're plugged in, you have to remove the 4'' black cap and poke the cord out the bottom.... I was thinking bugs and mice could just walk right up that cord and make a home in the rear storage area...
I took the screw in cap and notched it to fit the cord. The power cord can fit right through it and you can still thread the cap into the housing. It was a simple fix that you can do with a hacksaw, file or dremel tool...
I think it turned out pretty good.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing, and with the water hose bin as well. Or just purchase the pre-made ones so that you can close it up tight while on the road. Nicely done!

Another easy fix; put steel wool around the cord where it goes through the hole. Mice can actually fit in the space between the cord and cap. Most field mice can squeeze through a quarter inch gap. Mice and most bugs will not go through steel wool.

Any of you "innovated handymen" ever add a cup holder to the passenger side in the front of the cabin?
It kind of seems weird it doesn't have one. I didn't want to just screw one on from the auto parts... just wondering how you guys did it?

I have been looking for one for a while, I don't want a cheap plastic 2.00 one; was thinking of having the local cabinet shop build one for me with a compartment with a door, maybe after the first of the year, unless I find something else I like,,,

Yep, picked up a beige colored plastic one and just screwed it on where I wanted it. Works just fine.

FR3 Pictures of Mods

Put one of these on the passenger side for the wife and also to each end of the couch. Easy install and they work great. They fold flat against wall when not in use.

That's the same one that I used, only in beige.

Same for me! Passenger side, each side of couch and both sides of king bed. They work great.
