FR3 Slide Died

The main slide finally died. The motor works, there are no obstructions, but it makes a grinding noise.

The bedroom slide works fine.

Any suggestions?

Is it moving at all or just making noise and going nowhere? Stuck in or out?

A common issue. But I didn't expect we would see this gear strip issue on newer models. You should easily be able to get a warranty claim on that. FR knows they had a bad batch. Now how long you have to wait for the new motor and for the dealer to install it. That will probably be. A cause for pain.

What do you all think is causing these things to fail?....
Are we just laying on the buttons too long?....
Is there a limit switch on them?....

Personally I just run the thing in until it stops and release the button, but what is everyone else doing?

I think it is a combination of things. Stemming from bad design. 1 loose cable binding. 2 not level. 3 not having slide seals lubricated. 4 maybe holding button too long. 5 out of adjustment. I think they have a heavier duty setup available. But the big slide might already have it.

I don't think the user has any control over bad drive motors. As I recall the original slide drive motor problems were caused by an undersized gear used in the original motors. The softer metal gears apparently sheer a tooth. I've read that when the gear teeth sheer you can still Close the slide with one person holding the button and another person pushing in from outside.

However as pointed out. I've read posts about cable mount screw heads popping off and cables that become mis aligned slipping and snapping too.

The Accuslide design (opposing cables driven by a center motor) seems to have so many moving wearable parts. Unfortunately as I have been inspecting other slide design mechanisms it appears the Accuslide design seems to be under engineered. probably chosen by FR designers for its lower cost and light design. Many of the more expensive motorhomes use direct drive worm screws not tension cables.

The original post was for grinding, which should mean stripped or broken gears.

Right?.... I'd think stripped gears too... so I'm wondering if you stay on the button too long, and the side seals up hard, does the motor keep pulling and strip the gears or is there a limit switch type thing.

When I pull my slide in, it kind of comes in differently at the top than at the bottom... then when the slide-out gets up against the bottom, it pulls in the top the last little bit... then makes a tiny squeak like sound.
I always wonder if that noise is the cables and all that stopping and the motor keeping going....
Like it's getting ready to break?...
